Follow these instructions by Homelink.

The site allows you to put in your year, and to printout instructions too.

I know they made some changes to the Homelink for the newer "rolling" codes. Yours might be one of the earlier models.

Well, I know my 1998 worked with the newer rolling codes, as I installed new garage door openers last year and the Riv worked fine. Try looking for a 1998 or 1999 Homelink Riv assembly on eBay.

Just got a new door opener last weekend with the rolling code. Using the directions, I couldn't get the homelink remote to program. My 06 Buick Rainier instructions mentioned an added step to press the learn button on the opener then the appropriate button on the homelink within 30 seconds. Works like a charm.

Were you trying to sync off the remote, or the actual opener?

Sync the homlink remote to the actual opener The opener has a purple "learn" button on the back of the unit.

I put in these Chamberlain Belt Drive (with battery backup) units, and was able to sync up to them. I do know that if you have existing codes that you may have to reset the HomeLink on the Riv.

Chicken, you slay me dude. smile

Hey, anyone know if there is such a thing as a USB homelink receiver or something like that? It would be cool if you could hook it up to a more powerful home automation system. I googled but all that comes up is a router Linksys has called a homelink.

Have programmed 3 different garage doors and 3 different cars (2 Rivs and a Park Avenue) without any problems.

It could be that the homelink unit itself is bad. Do you get any of the blinking lights?

Couldn't get the one in my '96 to work with my garage door opener, which is a Chamberlain that is about 3 years old.
I figured it was because the opener was so much newer than the car.

That pretty much does away with my theory as to why mine doesn't work.
