horse power ?

I know this is a loaded question but what kind of "reliable daily driver" horse power can be made with the sc3800?

my buddy Dave has a intercooled MP112 GTP with XP cam and all the goodies thats a DD.i dont know the number but i can resure you its alot

400 at the crank at least.

I pushing 350whp (well over 400bhp) on my car... It is very capable to be a daily driver and was used as such until I just got it painted... now a sunny day driver.

300 HP for me. I use mine to drive 75 miles per day, average 20 MPG, have achieved as high as 37 MPG on the highway. Almost no change in exhaust sound, only major failure was transmission at 151k miles. I started modding at 35k miles, now have 169k and car is still very strong.

FWIW I was referring to ewolfe's car, so go by his number for the most not mine.

And to clarify, my 300 HP is crank power, not wheel. I dynoed 250 WHP, although I think if I did it again I would see ~260 WHP (315 crank).

5K bucks if done right......... with tranny

It's got to be more than that with the tranny. I figure by the time the tranny stuff is fully installed it's near 4k by itself. Intercooler is 800, headers are 200-10000 depending on how good they are, cam is 2-300 + install, tuner software is 600 . . .

To run that kind of power DD you will need transmission upgrades. Just ask... everyone who has a modded 3800...

Without tranny upgrades. Aaron has made a decent case for not upgrading the tranny, and so far he's been safe at the power level he's making.

Oh he has never had a tranny rebuild??? I know it was at high miles.. but still

But still... what? The cause of my failure was not related of how much power the engine made. At 151k, any one of our TCC solenoids could stick open.

Some stock trannies need rebuilt at much lower mileage. How many did you have on yours, Travis?

Shit Im At 160k On original tranny, I have changed the filter and shit and Im Still Alive Granite I aint pushing 400hp

I think it matters how you drive the car, also. How many track passes & dyno runs you have could affect the life of internal parts. And keeping fresh fluid in there is also key. Did anyone mention luck?

What kind of things have to be done to get in the neighborhood of 300whp, and where can I get them done. Or would I be better off swapping engines for one that is already built? I can install a stereo system, but I am useless under the hood.

Check our Modding 101 thread in the Series II FAQ sticky. You'll probably want to do the first 16 mods to achieve your goal, but there are other ways, such as N2O.

You can do most of the bolt-on mods yourself, even if you're not experienced. But if you want to pay for it, any 3800 mechanic in your area can do these mods. Anyone know of a good service shop near Madison, AL?

Thanks, i saw the modding 101 thread before. Now I have a better understanding of what mods I need to do to get the numbers I am looking for.
