Another guy with a big smile on his face!

Hello all,
My name is Dale, and ever since the last generation Riviera came out, I have been yearning for one.
Well, last night my dream came true with the purchase of a Champagne Gold Supercharged '96 model.
I am a long time Riviera and Buick enthusiast having owned a '66, '70, '90 and another '70 Riviera which I currently own. Along with many other Buick models in between.

I look forward to learning all I can about these great cars, and share my experiences along the way.

Me too, Kuz I think of how weak it is, and how it gets worse gas mileage then my firebird.

Welcome aboard! I have had my Riv for almost two years and had another one before that. It is truly a love affair. You will find mostly everything you'll need right here in all the posts. I have found people here most helpful and generous with there time and knowledge. Post some pics asap.

Well, it gets 24 mpg highway, which is reasonable, and runs a 14.0 1/4 mile, which is also reasonable, it's very comfortable, roomy, big trunk, no rattles, handles nicely... Mine can certainly spin the tires and/or take off quick when I want it to, the shifts are crisp and chirp nicely under WOT... I barely have enough room to use WOT anywhere. I get 18 mpg city.

Your firebird gets better than 18/24?

yes....

with my style of driving i usually range 20-24 city, and anywhere from 25-30 mpg on the highway....

The '66 was the first Riviera I owned back in the 80's.

The first thing I noticed when the '95 Riviera came out was that Buick clearly used the '66 - '67 models as inspiration for the front fenders of the '95.

I've now had a chance to go over the car more thoroughly, and there are some areas that require attention.
CD player doesn't work. And while the cassette player works, I don't think I can go back to using them.

Antenna doesn't move up and down.
The funny thing is, the antenna on my Park Avenue decided to quit the following day I bought the Riviera.
At least replacements aren't all that expensive.

btw...the antenna may be just cos the wire isent on the radio.
mine dident work tho when i buyed it...so i found out that the blue wire wasent connected whit the car radio. after conecting that and turning on the radio. the antenna worked.
truy whit tester if teh antenna gets any electricity on it

Dale, do you hear the power ant motor running, while the antenna just stays down? If the motor runs, you'll need to replace the antenna assy, available from the dealer or best price from gmpartsdirect.com

But yes, make sure it is actually hooked up. I know some northern owners will disconnect during winter to save wear and tear, in the event it froze up.

I'll get some pictures in the next day or 2. I have to at least have one to make an avator from.

Over the weekend I shampooed the carpet, and went over the paint quickly with compound and wax. I'll do a more detailed cleaning of the paint come spring.

I took a look at the antenna, someone at one time removed the motor.
They must have attempted to fix it but didn't get far.
Not a priority right now though. I can at least manually move it down for car washes.

Oh! and the CD player does work.
For some reason I thought the 4 trays below the ashtray were part of a multi disc CD player, not just CD holders.
I don't know how I overlooked the slot in the radio face since I am familiar with that style GM radio / CD player. I must have just gotten fixated on the trays.

When I got my car the cd holders were all sealed shut from coffee/soda spills. I had no idea what they were until I took the panel out to add a few wires to the cigarette lighter... took them out and cleaned and cleaned and cleaned them, and now I have a bonus 4 cd holder I didn't even know about at first!
