so I'm having a new engine put in my 95 Riv because the original is toast. My last car was a 95 Lincoln Mark VIII (which i loved). The Riv is better in some ways, but acceleration is not one of them. I'm just wondering, what's the best bang-for-your-buck way to get more power out of a series I engine? I don't have a lot to spend since most of my cash goes toward my "summer car". I know that a Series II swap would have been ideal, but I can't have it off the road for that long. What kind of improvement might i see from a 2.5" pulley? And if I do that, how exactly do I scan for KR? (If it was OBDII I'd know how to do it.) Is there any way to change the computer programming for more power with OBDI?

NOS would be cool but I don't really race this particular car. I'd rather have something that provides some constant extra power. Any of you '95 guys know enough about OBD I to help me out?

Did you check out this thread?:

https://rivperformance.editboard.com/series-i-engine-transmission-f13/series-1-performance-mods-t4618.htm

And here's some vital info for dropping the SC pulley on the series one:
http://www.pontiacbonnevilleclub.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=44&t=1660

for the computer, the 95 is really obd1.5, in that the computer is obd1 but the connector is obd2.

For a scanner you really just need a normal scanner that does obd2 that will still also do obd1. I use the Actron CP9145... got it off amazon for around 90 bucks CAD, should be cheaper for those in states as you won't pay as much shipping or border duty.

hrm, looks to have gone up in price abit:

functionality is limited when scanning obd1, mostly just lets you see the critical data, but not change anything or record runs or anything...

for custom chip programming you are really limited to these guys to do a chip for you:
