| My tape adapter for my ipod is stuck in the radio. It gives me an E13 error and it doesn't even try to eject it. Is there anyway that I can get it out without taking the radio apart? _________________ 1998 Supercharged Riviera - Custom CAI, Alpine spx-13ref, Infinity 6x9's, Alpine 4 Channel Amp, Kicker KX3, Silverstars, STB, Hawk Brake Pads, Monroe Air Shocks, KYB GR2

| I had the same thing happen to me. I was never able to get it out and ended up taking the radio apart and still had to use very ummm improper methods to get it out... I am very happy with my new radio though! | |

| Well I finally had time to try to get it out. The head (I think that is what it is called) was sticking out too far and it wouldn't let me pull the tape out. So if this happens to someone else, here is what I did.
Remove the radio. The instructions are posted on this site. Once you remove the radio, take it somewhere you can work without having to worry about dropping the small screws. You will need a very small socket (I think 3/16) to remove the little bolts. Once you start, you can see what needs to be taken apart. Once you remove the bolt on the access cover you will see 4 of the same small bolts. Remove those and disconect the wires and the tape part comes right out.
For the next part you will need a small phillips and torx driver. You need to remove the metal cover on the bottom. It is held in by 4 small phillips and one torx screw. Look on the underside of the tape player and you will see a black rectangle like piece. Use something to push it over. It won't be easy, but it should move the head back and allow you to get the tape out without damaging anything.
For some reason it still thinks there is a tape in there. I think one of the little motors or gears is stripped because all it does is make a grinding noise when you push the eject button. I'm glad that I got it out though. _________________ 1998 Supercharged Riviera - Custom CAI, Alpine spx-13ref, Infinity 6x9's, Alpine 4 Channel Amp, Kicker KX3, Silverstars, STB, Hawk Brake Pads, Monroe Air Shocks, KYB GR2

| My silver Riv has the stock stereo and the FM device that I had quit connecting to the iPod so I got the cassette type. It worked one time and then jammed. Did anyone try good 'ol needle nose pliers?
If I go to the trouble to take the head unit I will put an aftermarket unit in with iPod cable like my blue Riv.

| Most common problem with the Riv... Stuck tape adapters in the stock radio. I tried all kinds of tools, needlenose included, and was unsuccessful. Ended up getting lucky - even with the grinding and error code, the tape adapter still played, so I just learned to ignore it and never played any tapes! (do you actually have any tapes?) | |

| Mine was stuck in no tapes land. Would not come out, would not play. My wife borrowed the car and got it out somehow. Soooooo, do I put it back in?
If I knew it would at least play the iPod I would just leave it in.

| Isn't there an adapter to wire an iPod in thru the CD Changer input?

| Good question for a car audio shop. I did not think of that since the stock unit has a CD. However, if I have the unit pulled out to check I may as well install a unit with an iPod adapter. | |
