extremely pissed off with the Riv

Im trying to get this Riv running right so I can sell it but it just wont cooperate....the buick people told me it was the mass airflow sensor well i changed that and it didnt do any good, the engine is still skipping a beat and i no thats not normal....what the hell is wrong with it

Maybe it needs some new spark plugs? It solved my initial rough running problems.

is there any way to check the spark plugs before i go spending more money on this hunk of junk cuz if i dont get it fixed soon i just might run it into some tree's ;-) lol

Spark plugs are cheap. Like $10 for a set of them. I think I paid $18 for my NGK Platinums. Worth a shot at that price.

yeaaaa thats actually a pretty good price....this dam thing is just frustrating the hell out of me and i dont dare take it to a mechanic cuz the only mechanics around here are minimum wage drop outs that no absolutely nothing about cars

the whole engine skips a beat and it sounds all fucked up....like it sounds perfect when its in park but as soon as u shift into drive its like its missing a beat and cuts out and everything else

Well thats kind of what mine did when i first got it, and with a look at the plugs they were fouled to shit. Change 'em!

could be a broken vac line too. try tracing all the lines for broken connectors and holes.

I'm guessing spark plug wire, vac line or maybe even a coil pack. Check the wires to make sure they aren't arcing on anything. It sounds like a misfire to me though because it seems to happen when you put load on the engine.

How long has it been since you drove it and how many miles do you have on the Riv?

I'd go for new plugs and wires first. Then give us a better description of what's going wrong and we'll see what we can come up with...

this riv has been sitting and not driven since my accident in december....it has 150,000 miles on it.....another point i forgot to mention cuz i didnt think it mattered was when i bought the car out of the junkyard the manifold was full of holes but a friend of mine welded it....could that have anything at all to do with my problem?

The exhaust manifold? How do holes get in the exhaust manifold? That's a bad sign. Welding could have thrown off the O2 sensor.

Which exhaust manifold? Got any pictures of the welding work?

Pull a plug and check the gap it will give you an idea about how old they are. Was it running ok before you stopped driving it in December?

no it was still running like shyt when i stopped driving it in December its ran like this since i bought it....and no i dont have any pics and i dont no if it was the exhaust manifold lol im not that car smart i just no it had holes and he told me to have it welded so i did

I know mine needed more spark plug wires around that mileage my vacuum lines were cracked on top of the engine also they are under the cover on top of the engine on the right side. If you check gap on plug use a round gauge on used plugs.

HeHe i might be buying yet a 3rd riviera from a junkyard :-D i just got back from looking at it a friend of mine told me it was there.....its just tapped in the back end hehe

ok so the vacuum line theory was right....must be the rat that ate my air filter also ate a vacuum line fixed that today and the car is still running like hell so gonna try the spark plug theory next
