Spare tire... Empty
PostSubject: Spare tire...   Spare tire... EmptyMon May 04, 2009 11:46 pm

This weekend I managed to bust a tire about an hour away from home, but only 2 blocks from my sisters. There was a chunk of road missing in the turn lane right before the stop sign.

I pulled off and went to change it, well my spare tire was sliced open on the outer layer. But it was still holding air. I managed to limp it to my sisters and ended up getting a new tire on my wheel, at $100. The new wheel took care of the shudder issue I was having so thats good.

Anyways, can I just get a new spare tire fitted at any tire shop or is special order or what? Also, does anyone know if they are fairly cheap? I plan on driving to St Louis in a month or two for a few days and really don't want to be without it there.

Copy the size of the spare down - then get one from a salvage yard (you will probably only have to phone them) - all you will need is one off a 90's LeSabre, Bonneville, park avenue- there's a pretty long list of cars using the same size/offset spare, and the salvage yard will know.

Heck if you show up in person they might give you one. They get a *lot* of them.

Hey, good idea! I'll have to call the local yard. We've really only got one and they are in the middle of nowhere. I'll give it a shot

Make sure you get a 16" rim with your spare!!! A lot of regals and grand prixs etc have the same bolt pattern but a 15" rim, that won't clear your front brakes.

Please add some info about your car in your sig so we can answer your questions better. At least the year. I think '95 and maybe '96 can get away with the smaller rim. What year were the front brakes upgraded?

97 had the front upgrade. which reminds me, i need to see if my spare will fit over my fbody's or not.
it would be hard to do on the side of the road, but you could always swap the front and rear tires and then put the 15" spare on the backif that's all you could get.
also, we used to stock spare tires at pepboys, so i'd imagine most tire places can replace them for you pretty cheap($40?). bone yard would still be better if the tire isnt dried out or damaged.

You can also try car-part.com, which is a nationwide online auto boneyard, to find a used spare.
