| I've always been into the gold scene. I'd love to do it with my car. Problem is, I've got so much damn chrome on it (with more on the way) that it'd just look stupid unless I plated everything, which would cost a fortune.
If you've got the ability to put the gold on with little other chrome, I say all for it!

| My Riv has some goldtone pieces as well. Not from the factory though, these were a dealer add-on when the car was resold up here in MN. The grill R is gold, and the Riviera script emblems on the quarters are gold. Trunk lock as well. I think that's all. My license plate surround is chrome. They did gold pinstripes that I like, and the gold dealer info on the trunk lid, that I've removed. In general I dislike it on my car, and may remove all but the pinstripes. | |

| Wow, that's expensive for what you get. On my 2 gold Riviera script emblems on the quarters, one of the R's broke off. I bought a new emblem at the dealer for $18, chrome, and will come up with a good goldtone paint to spray it before I try putting it on the car. OR, I may just remove both emblems completely. My Supercharged trunk emblem is also gold, but looks crappy IMHO. Not sure if I'll remove it. | |

Definitely keep the pinstripes, but I'd keep the side script.

| when I do get around to the bodywork on my Riv I'm probably going to just remove the side Riviera-Script. The chrome is all peeled and they are mostly white plastic now, plus I just catch things on them when I'm washing my car. They are really poor quality and location I think. Besides, nobody can read that cursive-script when I go by at 140 anyway | |

Oh, well, if they're deteriorating, get rid of them. Be sure to fill the holes. - Quote :

All you need is to take off the 108 limiter...and the supercharger does the rest!

| heh I've actually had mine up to that once. It's stable and solid as a rock. Actually feels great at that speed. I don't recommend it, don't condone it, I was on a wide wide open highway and I have speed-rated tires. I was on my way home from a mod day where we first removed the speed limiter, wanted to see if it worked It was not scary at all, the Riv is a well designed car. I really was trying to catch a BMW and Acura that had zipped by a minute before at 120 or so... There was plenty of room to accelerate more too. I will have to adjust shift points to make it work though, was so far down on the throttle it was trying to downshift, so pretty much at the top of 3rd gear and couldn't get the converter to lock up in 4th. Now that I have my own tuner I can make it drive the way I want | |

That's why my R is missing, poor design, caught an edge while washing and broke it off. I don't think it says Riviera anywhere else though, except the underhood insulator. Oh wait, on the dash also.

| What sort of cost would there be to have every chrome trim piece on the Riviera gold plated? I have seen some gold trimmed Rivieras before - a factory option to have the gold package? My biggest interest - what would it cost to have the factory seven spoke 16" Riviera rims gold plated? I don't really want real gold, just the appearance of shiny gold. I've always been a big fan of how good Subaru's look with gold rims: Admittedly, that's more of a flat gold and I would be looking for the shiny gold look. Personally I think these kind of rims in ridiculously shiny gold would look good: | |

| the gold package was a dealer added option, like soft tops, extra "special edition" badges and wood dash kits.
personally, i think gold on cars is tacky. more of a chrome fan myself.
but if you're serious about gold plating your rims call up a local powder coat shop and see if they have a gold color. their color options are pretty sweet. it wont be mirror like chrome though. _________________ 1996 with 254k miles, L32 4" FWI -> ported N* -> Ported Gen V w/3.0" Pulley, Stage 3 Phenolic I/C, ZZP FMHE, 1.84 RR, Headers and 3" pipe to mufflers, F-body brakes, and lowered on Eibachs. -RIP AMG C400 White on black. | I noticed something interesting about my 97, the trunk emblem/cover is gold plated around the outside part of the emblem, not the R itself. Nothing else is gold on the car. Does this mean anything as to a certain package it might have? Or could it just be a replacement that happened to be gold?

| Sounds like someone got a gold replacement, either the lock cover or a complete trunk lid. Does it have the 'supercharged' emblem on the trunk lid too? Is that gold? | |

| There are shops that have portable plating machines that can plate, as you have said, just the outside edge and not the whole thing. The machine is a small electroplater and they use a liquid that has small gold particles in it. You apply the solution to what ever you want plated and then just attach a ground and rub the other end, kind off has a swab on it, over the area you want the gold to adhere to and presto. A friend of mine in Florida bought one and would do emblems on cars and various motorcycle parts. Could even gold plate plastic that already had a chrome finish. As long as it would conduct electricity. It was a neat and small unit that ran on 110v. He used to bring it to car and bike shows, with a small generator, in the Tampa bay area and make a killing. | |
