Rear Seat Cushion - What is the secret

Okay, I give up, how the----- do you put the back seat cushion in place?

Slide in the back edge first, there are two plastic "things" that slide into two metal brakets along the back. Then just push down the front. If if doesn't go "click" then sit on the seat.

Seriously, for some reason I occasionally blow the interior light fuse. I now carry needle nose pliers and fuses and can undo the the seat, take the fuse block cover off, remove fuse, replace fuse, put the cover on in 1 minute. Getting the seat cushion back in takes 5 seconds or 15 minutes. There is a technique involved with pushing it in at an angle and then pivoting it down just right so the two plugs on the seat fit exactly in the holes in the support.

What helps me is looking under the front edge of the rear seat before pushing it down so I mash it down with the heel of my paln right over where it's supposed to clip down. So for me it takes 5 seconds or 10 seconds.

I know one mechanic (Mooch) who can do it reliably and repeatably without looking. The rest have to look or fiddle with it.

I start with it tilted up high, and holding the seatbelts up in place. I sometimes tuck the middle longer seatbelt into the armrest to hold that up while I hold the drivers side floppier part in place with one hand. (I look pretty silly while doing this maneuver).

Then just lower the front while pushing back. It slips right in. A good push down on the front after it's lowered and it clicks home.

I think holding the seatbelts up is the key.

The thing ive notice is that just one side is not suffice to hold it in the pressure from the other side will pop it back out.

The way i do it is i stater with one side usually the drivers side of the car and push down and back until you feel it pop in then use your knee to hold that side down while repeating with the other side. It ends up looking like some sort of weird yoga pose but it works.

The easiest wy is to have a freind hold down the first side of the cushion while you work on the second.

on my car there is a particular problem that is as annoying as hell. the factory carpet has a permanent fold in the carpet that forces me to push down on the offending corner in order to properly position the seat for placement. that sucks. everytime.
