I had NO gains at all. One thing I did notice is the car got hotter faster at idle.

scratch I can't imagine why. There shouldn't be any EGR at idle anyway...

Rick is right - EGR gasses help cool the combustion chambers. It sounds backwards but it's true. Leaving the EGR in place won't hurt performance. The only time you should delete the EGR is if you are running an intercooler and there is no hole through the IC core for the EGR passage.

I have an offboard if you really want to play Timo, but I'll need a spare '96 PCM to pre-program, and you'll need to get a good scanner...

This is right. It's pointless and can do more damage removing it.

It cools the cylinders by using spent (non-combustible exhaust gasses) to replace the fuel and air mix in the cylinder, therefore cooling it down. Until someone can prove to me it benefits anything by removing it, I'll keep calling it a useless and backwards mod. If EGR is giving you KR, it's in your tune or your setup, removing the EGR won't cure it and is nothing but a bandaid on the real problem.
