Riv Owner Wannabe Empty
PostSubject: Riv Owner Wannabe   Riv Owner Wannabe EmptyThu Mar 25, 2010 9:35 am

Greetings! I have owned a couple of 70's Riv's in the past and I am finally now looking for a nice 95-99. Other than checking the local newspaper, dealer ads and AutoTrader, any other suggestions on finding one? Also, how concerned should I be about Riv's with 100,000+ miles? I'm not into doing my own major repairs; I would just like to find a decent one to wash, wax, enjoy and drive a little every day.

I cannot provide much insight on alternate ways to find Rivieras, as my main one was purchased from a fella who lives about a mile away from me. My second one was bought from just random auto sales site searching, which I would recommend if you have free time... there are some gems out there on relatively obscure sites.

With regard to being concerned with purchasing one with over 100k miles on it, I'll give you my personal experience. I purchased my '98 with about 115k+ miles on it. It has been almost entirely a good experience except for a few maintenance issues that I should have taken care of sooner than I did. The previous owner took good care of the car and I try to take very good care of mine. For years, I drove the car a little every day and over those years, I virtually never had any issue except very minor ones (e.g. valve stem leak, new spark plug wires). Others may have some suggestions for you, but this is from personal experience, and it is one reason why I love the thing so much.

I'm selling mine, already modded. It's got some custom paint and a bunch of engine/trans mods. I drive it to work every day and consider it quite enjoyable wink

But I understand if it's more car than you were looking for.

I just saw a white 54K mile '99 for $9999 in new jersey.

So, the best way I've searched is through searchtempest.com I did a quick search of 98 Riviera (stick with 98/99 if you can) and I found all sorts of rivis throughout the country. The lowest was $1000 outta Florida. It looks clean but its white and the paint has peeled. It's an obo (bank repo) so probably could steal for closer to $500.

Average price is about $3500 that it looks like but that means nothing. I was lucky and found mine with 19,000 miles on it but those finds are still out there. Good luck

You might also try "jaxed.com" which is a combined country wide craigs list web site. Just select the various make, model, years, area you're interested in. Also, there's "ownster.com" which is similar but also includes autobuy, hemmings, ebay motors and a few others.
