I think the wires GB is quite dead at this time, due to lack of demand, even with the Regal GS guys.

The wires GB was kind of stillborn. My guess is it was a couple of the Magnecor folks, and I reckon the issue kind of is that their standard (70 or 80 mm) wires are so good there's not much reason to get the 100s. They were better about it than the guy who wanted to sell the passkey defeat box.

The wires were sold by a couple of long-time RegalGS members looking for an opportunity. If one of them were with Magnecor, they were also members of the Buick community for many years.

Even though it is now dead, I still want to include it in the Group Buy listing, just for the record.

I agree with Albert regarding the Magnacor Ignition Wire Sets.

The 8mm are more than adequate, fit in the current wire holders, can be purchased with a phone call direct to Magnacor, are reasonably priced for a very well made set of wires that are guaranteed for life.

The group buy was a long time ago and there wasn't much of a discount and 10 mm is good for Race Engines, not necessary for street or even our ignition system.

EDIT:
I didn't realize you were creating a Group Buy List, Sorry

Ok Aaron, I just didn't see the point of it since it was a dead issue. There's also the Addco sway bar GB if you want to list that too.

PostSubject: Re: Engine Bay Group Buys   Engine Bay Group Buys EmptyThu Jul 08, 2010 2:59 pm

This thread is for listing group buys re: Engine Bay. The Addco bar thread is listed in the Brakes & Suspension forum's Group Buy thread. Every forum with group buys (not many) will get its own listing thread. Once we have a sizable number, I will consider making a Group Buy tab in the header, but right now we don't have very many.

Point regarding the Magnecors: there's no harm in members being aware of the group buy opportunity, even if it is expired. They can still read about it (I just did, not bad). Most group buys expire after some time, but at least the knowledge remains, and contact info exists if someone is ever interested in obtaining the product. Who knows? Maybe there are a couple sets left over?

I see your point, and sorry I didn't notice the classification breakdown you were doing.

I didn't think the wires GB ever resulted in any actually being ordered. Seemed they were several sets short of the minimum and both board's threads died out. But you are correct, there may be some good info to be had anyway.

PostSubject: Re: Engine Bay Group Buys   Engine Bay Group Buys EmptyThu Jul 08, 2010 4:26 pm

I agree, they didn't sell many, if any sets. Classic case of trying to sell a product without first identifying a market. They might as well have tried selling us a fancy spark plug. Like Autolite plugs, OEM wires have such a solid reputation - they're one of the better quality parts on our cars. It's very hard to convince the market to pay 3x more for something we're already happy with, from both performance and durability standpoints.

But, if those guys stick with it and don't give up, I think they could get things right and come out with a product that would sell. They're very familiar with our engines and cars. They just need to look more closely at the market. Remember those painted FWI intake tubes that were available for awhile? That was a solid product with a strong market. I bet they sold thousands of them.

I don't think I'm familiar with the FWI you speak of.
This isn't the same one you have, as i remember you saying only a few of them were built. What is this painted FWI that was sold in the thousands.?
Who made and sold those.?
Thanks,
Rick

PostSubject: Re: Engine Bay Group Buys   Engine Bay Group Buys EmptyThu Jul 08, 2010 5:51 pm

The posts may have been deleted from RegalGS, but there was a vendor who figured out a way to make FWI tubes in custom colors for Regal, GTP, Monte, etc. They were asking for someone to let them measure the Riviera, but I don't think it ever happened. The pricing was reasonable, not sure how good the quality was.

I think it may have been ModBug Performance.

Engine Bay Group Buys Empty
PostSubject: Re: Engine Bay Group Buys   Engine Bay Group Buys EmptyFri Jul 09, 2010 6:40 am

...I think I need to clear the air a little.

It's a good idea to put the "group buys" in one place. Including the 100mm Magnecor wires. The *only* issue ought to be, I think, whether the group buy is still active -- so the people posting group buys might also figure out a time limit and update it as the group buy continues.

Products like the FWI tubes, 100mm wires (and even the pass-key box) have a limited market, and posting to a forum like this, for the seller, is a very efficient way to reach that market. The problem is, people participating on this board are not necessarily participating because they want to be sold stuff. Pushing all offers of sales into a "for sale" section makes sense if only in that it respects the membership; a 'group buys' section under that helps people notice things that because of information exchange on the other parts of the site, became of interest to more than a couple members.

something to think about, anyway

Albertj

PostSubject: Re: Engine Bay Group Buys   Engine Bay Group Buys EmptyFri Jul 09, 2010 10:14 am

Albert, I support the idea, but as stated we have a very small number of group buy opportunities (4 total). I think when we have a few more, it would be nice to put a tab in the header leading to all the threads, as was done with Write-Ups and FAQs.
