| I just bought a 1997 Buick Riviera, white (some paint problems), only 107k miles on it. It hadn't been driven much in the past year, which probably contributed to some of the problems I've had right off the bat (both wheel bearing hubs, belt, oil sending unit, something with the blower - I've actually posted a question about that already). Anyway, I used to work on cars more, but since I stopped driving my 1982 Bronco, I haven't done as much just because I'm not familiar with newer cars. So I'm something of an amateur to this, but I'd like to do some more work again, which led me here.
Anyway, just wanted to introduce myself. Thanks for the help in advance, and I look forward to reading posts from people much smarter than I am about this stuff!

| Welcome! You said you had a problem with the blower, any specifics? Supercharger's don't go bad so you either have a $20 plastic coupler, or a $70 snout oil seal and bearings kit that you'll need to get to fix it. A rattling sound is usually the coupler, and you're lucky because you can just pop the M90 snout off and do it that way, but be prepared for the stink of S/C oil. My M62 had to be removed from the car to do this... | |

| Thanks for the welcome, guys.
IBx1 - I have a thread going on it in the interior section. It's the a/c blower that's not going. I thought it was the resistor, but apparently it's not. Interestingly enough, though my car has the supercharger logo on the trunk, it doesn't actually have a supercharger. No idea what happened in that first 100k miles that they took it out.
I'll try to post up some pictures soon, but nothing special. Body was in great shape when I got it, but I got nailed by a hit and run driver (I got the tag, but the car was still registered to the previous owner, which is no help), so I need to have the front right fender replaced. White paint, peeling pretty badly on the trunk and a few other spots, which I've seen on a few Buicks the same age and color as mine.
My plan is to slowly fix it up and start making improvements as time and money allows, though!

He's got to know who he sold it to?

| Haha, wrong blower. Don't feel so bad about the paint; on the Riviera's GM used a primer that dried too fast so the paint didn't fully adhere. Over time most Riviera's develop a lot of bad cracking, peeling, bubbling, etc. There are plenty of guys here with guides on how to repaint the Riv, but aside from the $70 tractor paint job recently posted, I'd recommend spending money where it counts and keeping the car running. | |
