anyone have trouble with broken steering wheel buttons on the airbag equipped 90-93 riviera? can they be replaced by just snapping new ones in? when my left one fell out, i tried a tiny bit of super glue, but all i did was permanently secure it without the ability to honk on the left side. now the right side is starting to fall out. they look like these:

There are two T20 torx screws for each horn switch assembly located the backside of the SIR inflator module (aka driver's air bag). Once the screws are removed disconnect the wire from each. The FSM cautions you to disable the SIR module BEFORE fiddling with the horn switches. Pull SIR fuse #14 from the fuse panel to disable. I believe the 90-93 Riviera and the 90-91 Reatta horn switch assemblies are interchangeable. I see them for sale on EBay every once in awhile.

wasn't the same steering wheel used on multiple buicks in the early to mid 90's? i've seen the same one on century, lesabre, park avenue. if only the ones you say will work though, that's what i'll focus on in my search. have your buttons broke?

so, once i remove the screws, then i can remove the buttons? since mine are broken, i would think there is a little plastic piece that i would have to remove as well (the broken pieces)? when i remove the torx screws, the wires will be connected to them (on the back side)?

in the pics i posted above, see the gap between the 2 pieces? on my broken buttons, only the front part falls out-the piece with the little horn logo-not that other piece. thanks for your help!

You might be correct re: other Buicks using the same horn switch. I've just never concentrated on looking for them since mine have never broken. BUT, you put a thought in my head to look for some the next time I'm at a you-pull-it junkyard....always alot of Buicks but rarely/if ever a Riviera.

Once you remove the screws the whole horn assembly (or what's left currently on your steering wheel) can be moved out from the front enough for you to disconnect the wire.

You might check the "For Sale" section of this forum...Subject: 1990 Buick Riv Part Out (author is flyineagle96). Don't know if he has horn assemblies or if so what color.

Definitely... Our '92 LeSabre with the 'big' airbag had the same horn buttons. That would probably mean that the LeSabre/Park Ave through '94 used them, and maybe the 'small' cars as well.

Roadmasters and Reattas had these type of buttons as well.
