| the only thing that doesn't work on my 90 with 37k is the cd player, which is separate from the radio. it tries to play the cd for a bit, then ejects it. does anyone know anything about the 90-93 cd players? i'd like to just update the entire system, but i have to keep it "on the cheap" (mean wife!). | |

| I had problems with this exact unit. Only when it was hot was I able to get it to work. I would have to constantly insert and re-insert a cd for nearly 5 mins to get it to kick in. Your best bet is to pull a newer GM deck with seperate player. It will plug right into your Riviera and should mount with no problems. Essentially your just putting in an updated version of what you have. You can find these in safari/astro vans and GM pickups. Some have deck mount cd with tape unit below or vise versa. This setup can is also dirt cheap to buy. | |

Yep I had that (bose) setup in my old riv years back. With this newer setup the cd functions are controlled by the head unit rather then by itself like the older model. For astro and safari vans look in 1995-2005 (anything with the newer resigned dash) and also 95-2002 chev/gmc pickups, yukons etc newer body style and older all carried the same setups until 03 when they went with double din). If you find the lower cd section but not the upper just look in random GM cars they are all plug and play and you will find the exact same unit. Pontiac decks will also work but will light up in red. Another thing to keep in mind is if you want to ditch the tape another factory cd unit will bolt/plug right in.. Making your old cd unit just a part of the dash. For example Or you can just grab a newer cd unit only like the one pictured above in the astro/pickup. They all work and plug in direct.

| They used the same remote CD player in the '95 Riv, and maybe even the '96. Possibly find one from a newer model and use that? If originality is what you are looking for maybe that would be the way to go? | |

| blownriv- when you say to look for the newer single unit, will it plug right in without modifying the wires or harness?
99rivman- same thing-would a newer riviera's unit plug directly in without modicication?
flyineagle96- what is the "setup" you have on your 92-an astro/safari single unit or a newer riviera unit?
thanks everyone! | |

Yep GM used the same plug all the way into the mid 2000's. Most of the mounting is the same too. The newer delco decks are slightly deeper but thats all. I have put these decks in a ton of various GM's from the mid 80s to the late 90s. You can always post a pic of the deck your getting if you want confirmation.

I don't know about the newer years, late '90s and into 2000, but the '95 and '96 CD player with all of the buttons would be a direct fit. I'm not sure how the ones that have no buttons on them would work but they might?
