- well I am getting spark. The engine turns over, sometimes it will start but will run like crap for a few secs then die. I tested the wires with a screwdriver and 2 did not spark. Also I ran some B12 in the tank beforehand so maybe the plugs are fouling. I'll check it further probably after the weekend. if it was the CPS it wouldn't run at all, not even for a second am I correct?
You say you are getting spark, and then a sentence later say you tested the wires with a screwdriver and 2 did not spark. Which is it? Coil pack could be dead, or ICM problem. What the $@%# is an ICM?

| Ignition Control Module. Sits under the coil packs. Sometimes goes by other names. Watch your language, or you will find people less willing to help. _________________ | |

SES must be the service engine soon light, that has been on since i bought this car. I assumed it was an oil change light. well so much for the longevity of 95 buick riviera sc..... theres alot wrong with this car. i may just part ways with this and buy a better car.. even if i were to put my time in and repaint this, pay all the repairs and all that business i probably wouldnt get $2,000 for it. i'm going to call the craigslist scanner guy if he can't get the codes then I'm just going to cut my losses and put this one back on craigslist.

| You have had some good suggestions previously in this thread regarding spark and the ICM/spark system: - BMD wrote:
- If your not getting spark, check your IGN fuse (10 amp), if it is blown, it could be that your Ignition Module needs to be replaced.

- Now you're closer to fixing this problem. The MAF sensor shouldn't have anything to do with starting your car. Start with the basics - fuel and spark. Find out why those wires don't have spark!
A no spark on two wires would be a great place to start for the symptom of hard/no starting and crappy running. Might as well get it running well before selling, you will get miles more money for it that way. I'd see if the no spark is coming from the same coil pack, and if so, switch its position and see if the no spark moves. If so, replace the coil pack. If it doesn't move, look into the ICM. _________________

You would think so, but this was also the case with the gp i was talking about. It wouldnt start with the MAF plugged in. Im not saying this is whats going on with his car cause im not there, but with him sprayin the MAF with carb cleaner, thats where id start. Spraying the MAF sensor with carb cleaner can damage it. There is MAF cleaner that is very different from carb cleaner spray. I would be very suspicious of your MAF sensor at this point too. Sorry to hear you are ready to give up on the car after many repair attempts without actually getting a diagnosis of your problem completed. That's not a good reason to dis the car.

Not sure anyone mentioned - to get the codes basically you need an OBD-1 type scanner that uses an OBD-2 connector. There is another posting on this site listing candidate scanners. IIRC they are not all that pricey anymore. Albertj

Especially if the wounds are possibly self inflicted...... Ya... I know, man, I know. I wish I had left the damn thing alone. I'm looking for the post to see what scanners will work. I just wish I had the money to put in because I know it's not major. Maybe I should just keep the car and save for another and get back to the riv when I have the money.
