A/C Question Empty
PostSubject: A/C Question   A/C Question EmptySat Nov 12, 2011 10:23 am

On my 98 Riviera needed a new schrader valve for the high pressure, my mechanic sent me to the GM dealer for it as he said Advanced Auto parts shraders not good. Dealer gave me a funny look and showed me the diagram on his computer that both valves on the same line the high pressure line and does not show any on the low pressure. My mechanic said this is the first time he saw a car with both valves on the same line. What gives?

It would be impossible to charge the system without a valve on the low side.

They are both on the same line, parts dept guy thought it was very strange also when he looked into the diagram on the computer, both the high and low valves are on the same line.

Not only basic logic but understanding how the system functions tells you this is not possible.

It is like that and the dealers diagram showed the same, if you can take a look at yours. Tried to attach picture.

It's not on the same line. #4 is the high side service port, #12 is the low side service port.

No, but at least you can communicate privately. For example, he could mail you his email address, then you can email him yours, then he can attach an image to a direct mail.

Another thing you could do is send him your email address through a PM.

Posting your email address in a forum thread is kind of like putting your phone number on a billboard sign. You might get some strange phone calls!

The low pressure valve is the smaller one (closer to the firewall).

I added a can of R134 (bought the NAPA recharge kit) through the small port this spring, and the system blew 40-45 degree air all summer. This was the first time I'd played with R134 (I'd only had experience with R12 before), and was pleasantly surprised at how they had made it "dummy proof" by making the low pressure port smaller than the high pressure port.

By the way, Big Lots sells R134 cans for $8 (I believe that they are 12 oz)

Yes but the low and high pressure ports are on the same line, that is the question, how can they both be on the same line.

I believe it is possible for the high and low valves to be on the same line - if there is some kind of metering device inside, between the valves, to adjust the pressure. With the system running, touch the line near the large valve (high side). It should be warm. Compare by touching the line near the smaller valve (low side). It should be cold.

Those crazy GM engineers and their clever fluid dynamics solutions!
