| While I was replacing my trans I had the intake tube off and started the car I could hear some what of loud ticking sound comin from the tb. Also when the car is in gear I get a type of a rough whine sound. Ive heard it before but thought it was my old trans | |

| Not sure what the ticking sound would be but the rought whine in gear is likely the SC coupler needing to be replaced. | |

| The worn SC coupler would tend to make more of a "tumbling rocks/marbles" noise, instead of a whine. Mine was most noticeable at shutdown and idling. Solved with a new ZZP coupler.
The ticking would be relatively normal to hear when you have the intake opened up while running. | |

| Before the rebuild, my transmission used to whine a bit due to the pump working overtime. This seemed to come from the left side of the car, near the intake. I drove it this way for probably 20k miles. Very similar to power steering whine. _________________ '05 GTO 6.0L • 6-spd • 95k miles • 0-60: 4.8s • 16.9 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:26'95 Celica GT 2.2L • 5-spd • 165k miles • 0-60: yes'98 SC Riviera • 281k miles • 298 HP/370 TQ • 0-60: 5.79s • ET: 13.97 @ 99.28 • 4087 lb • 20.1 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:30 3.4" pulley • AL104 plugs • 180º t-stat • FWI w/K&N • 1.9:1 rockers • OR pushrods • LS6 valve springs • SLP headers • ZZP fuel rails KYB GR2 struts • MaxAir shocks • Addco sway bars • UMI bushings • GM STB • Enkei 18" EV5s w/ Dunlop DZ101s • F-body calipers EBC bluestuff/Hawk HP plus • SS lines • Brembo slotted discs • DHP tuned • Aeroforce • Hidden Hitch^^^ SOLD ^^^ '70 Ninety-Eight Holiday Coupe 455cid • 116k miles^^^ SOLD ^^^ | |

| My old trans did the same exact thing, it was in really bad shape. What would cause the pump to work that hard. Now for the SC I'll check it for play when I get home, how much should it have | |

| Ideally, there should be near zero slop. If it seems like there's even 1mm before engaging, I'd consider replacing the coupler. _________________ '05 GTO 6.0L • 6-spd • 95k miles • 0-60: 4.8s • 16.9 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:26'95 Celica GT 2.2L • 5-spd • 165k miles • 0-60: yes'98 SC Riviera • 281k miles • 298 HP/370 TQ • 0-60: 5.79s • ET: 13.97 @ 99.28 • 4087 lb • 20.1 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:30 3.4" pulley • AL104 plugs • 180º t-stat • FWI w/K&N • 1.9:1 rockers • OR pushrods • LS6 valve springs • SLP headers • ZZP fuel rails KYB GR2 struts • MaxAir shocks • Addco sway bars • UMI bushings • GM STB • Enkei 18" EV5s w/ Dunlop DZ101s • F-body calipers EBC bluestuff/Hawk HP plus • SS lines • Brembo slotted discs • DHP tuned • Aeroforce • Hidden Hitch^^^ SOLD ^^^ '70 Ninety-Eight Holiday Coupe 455cid • 116k miles^^^ SOLD ^^^ | |
