| I have always heard a small noise coming form the supercharge area when at idle. Now however when at idle the car is runing really wierd. The RPM is jumping when in drive and at times when in Park. ( could this be a missfire or the supercharge casuing this.) WIth this said the noise seems to be coming from the supercharger area and its like a crackling noise. Could this be a bearing, coupler? or something else. Would low or no oil in the supercharge cause this? I never have changed the oil in the supercharge and am not even sure it is possible. Any help is apreciated. Also where could I get bearings or a coupler kit if this is the issue. Does any one know where I could get a shop manual on this as well. I would like to fix it my self. Please if someone can let meknow as soon as possible what to do its starting to get cold in Chicago and would like to get this issued fixed before the snow arrives.
Thank you very much everyone.

| this could be a coupler, rule that out by removing the belt, starting it and see if the noise is still there. Don't run it for long, as you have no water pump - this is just a noise check.
With the engine and belt off, try rotating the SC pulley by hand and see if there is much play. This would also indicate a bad coupler.
I suspect you may have a spark plug wire arcing, which would also ruin your idle.

| I took a spray container and sprayed the wires with a little water . I did not see any arc or signs of spark coming out of the wires. Could there be a bad spark plug. I bought it a about 2 years ago and the owner did mention something about only changing the front 3 spark plugs because the dealer wanted to charge a lot of money to change the back three since they are hard to reach. With this said if I change spark plugs what a good method for getting the back ones off. Do you know where I could get a shop manual for trying to fix the coupler if the test fails on taking the belt of to see if the noise is still there or not. Is it something I can do my self. I plan on running the test tomorrow morning . | |

| Will I have to tighten the belt when I take if off the SC to start the engine and check if the noise is still there? or will it be ok just detaching the belt from the SC and starting the enigne for the check. | |

Thank you very much everyone. The RPM jumping is as likely to be a dirty/gummy throttle body as anything else. Every 50 - 75 thou miles or so you have to get a replacement gasket then pull the TB and clean it. Can't spray in it 0 not that you can't but rather that you should not bother because there is no way to get it clean if you do --- no stuff you really have to pull it. There is a bung in the snout that you remove (with allen wrench) to get oil in it. Buy the oil at a GM dealer, it's not free but you don't need but so much. If you have a '95 with a series one supercharger you supposedly can use a 50-50 mix of transmission fluid (Dexron 6) and synthetic 5W30 oil -or- the factory fluid. Easy to check and fill. Might need to warm car up to get bung out dep on who put it in and when - if it was put in warm you def will need to warm up engine to get it out. Find a factory shop manual on eBay or if you have $150 or so to burn just get it from HELM Inc. (or a GM dealer). Cheapest way is eBay. There is no Haynes for this car and the Chiltons is not so good. By the way you should ask at the local library, there is a chance they subscribe to Alldata on-line, which will be decent for this car. Albertj

Search this site for hints and tips to get the plugs out. I think for the Ser I the best way is to roll car up on ramps and go at them from underneath. Try not to do that when the exhaust is still hot to the touch. Albertj
