PostSubject: Re: I'm exhausted...time for some pics   I'm exhausted...time for some pics - Page 2 EmptyThu Nov 22, 2007 12:41 pm

here's a view of a 16" rim and a 17" rim...

I'm exhausted...time for some pics - Page 2 Standard

The old 16 is off my Contour, which I sold for the Riv.. probably should have kept it and sold it to my Bro-in-law.... Hindsight..
I'm exhausted...time for some pics - Page 2 Standard

Also just bought 4 new Falken tires off ebay for $340 & free shipping... that's amazing... I couldn't find 17's for less than $120 here and I got them for $87 each...

Also did some measuring, a 7.5" rim with a 45mm offset still sits back further than a 7" rim with a 32mm offset, so I shouldn't have any fitment problems with the wheel & the outer fender.

yay

Okay, got the wheels put on. Rainy day, but if you've taken a lot of photos, sometimes a gray cloudy day gives better color definition & better pics... well, it's gray and cloudy today!

I'm about 95% happy with them. 18's would probably have been better, but $$$ and the sidewall heights are pretty low.

Also, here's a question. With my new tires I'm running 40psi, my olds were 30psi... I wonder why?? Larger tires & lower profile = higher PSI??

They look fantastic! The car looks higher than before. Has it raised any?

As for the increased tire pressure, I think it has to do with having less space inside a low-profile tire to absorb bumps and irregular surfaces. The tire with a higher sidewall ratio has more air to cushion the rim from damage. Lower ratios should require more pressure to compensate.

A friend of mine who works for Honda told me that bigger wheels and lower profile tires create more work for suspension parts, causing them to wear out faster. Car makers have needed to improve their suspensions in order to keep up with the trend of larger wheels being popular with new buyers, but the improvements are offset by the extra wear. It's very likely that if you bought a newer car with 18" wheels, and swapped them with 15" wheels, the suspension would last a very long time.

Plus one means I went up one wheel size, and came down one "size" in tire. So the overall size of the entire wheel/tire is the same as OEM. Actually it's about .5" larger if you hold them side to side.
