Like it says, it's a half mile long drag race on a private runway for two days. I'm planning to register for this event later this week to take the turtle.
Anyone else want to try to make it? Also what would you all be doing prep-wise for this?

| Thanks for posting! 1/2 mile isn't much space really. Accel and brakes are really important. This is probably a 0-120-0 run. I probably won't make this event, but for prep, here are my 2¢:
AAA Gold (premium) membership: the tow home won't cost as much
Tires: new w/ fresh balance, Z/Y/W rated
Brakes: new front rotors, high friction track pad (EBC blue/Hawk DTC), fresh DOT 4
Engine: KR at zero WOT 1-3 gear,
Trans: cooler install, recent fluid change
A-Force Gauge: set alarms for temp & KR limits
Should be good to go. Oh, most important thing: video, video, video!
If you sign up, I might drive up to meet and document your run(s). Just bought a GoPro Hero 3, and have several mounts + 2 other cams and an iphone. We could remake the The World's Fastest Indian, but with a Riv!

| I'd put some 100 octane race fuel in to ward off any KR. Turtleman of course has E85, so that KR is covered, but for anyone else, some race gas. _________________ 98 Riviera SC3800 All stock except gutted air box. 1970 Buick GS455 Stage1, TSP built 470BBB, 602HP/589TQ Best MPH, 116.06 MPH, Best ET, 11.54 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UHCda-t_Jls https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sfT2tEO4XcU

| Turtle, is there some info on here where I can find out more about your E85 conversion?
And what have you done to your transmission to make it able to withstand the sheer amount of power you are going to destroy it with in Chicago?

And what have you done to your transmission to make it able to withstand the sheer amount of power you are going to destroy it with in Chicago? I didn't really write-up the E85 conversion as I didn't think there was that much to say about it. I installed 80lb/hr fuel injectors a couple weeks advance - wanted to make sure they worked fine with normal gas which they do, multiplied my injector flow rate table by 30% for a baseline tuning point after literally emptying the tank of gas so to start with pretty much pure E85 and then spent about 2-3 hours MAF-tuning to get fuel trims on point although it was perfectly drivable right off the bat. Nothing else except I changed the fuel filter after a few months per recommendation of other E85 people. Another thing to consider with E85 is that if you're at a significantly higher power level (say 350hp - maybe less than that even) you also have to worry about if the fuel pump can supply this extra fuel. The factory pump is pretty damn good and the riv (unlike the w-bodys) has reasonably good wiring for the fuel system but I don't officially know what it can support. I replaced & rewired my fuel pump long before the conversion with a racetronix pump and voltage booster on top of that. For me, this is really going to be a trap speed event. My transmission isn't built to handle the power so I'm not going to be running slicks or DR's or doing any serious burnouts. I want to see how fast I can get it, see if it's making power up top. I will have two 10lb nitrous bottles with me as well which I'll be spraying in 2nd & 3rd as much as I can get away with. Half mile is pretty good for that. It's actually getting kinda hard to tune top end/ nitrous because it takes no time at all before you're going idiotic speeds. I can't get a lot of scan data if I'm already going twice as fast as traffic in a few seconds while spraying lol.

| I can bring the trailer, but no winch. My advice: sign up for AAA premium. I had them tow me 250+ miles from the track last year, didn't cost me that much at all. _________________ '05 GTO 6.0L • 6-spd • 95k miles • 0-60: 4.8s • 16.9 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:26'95 Celica GT 2.2L • 5-spd • 165k miles • 0-60: yes'98 SC Riviera • 281k miles • 298 HP/370 TQ • 0-60: 5.79s • ET: 13.97 @ 99.28 • 4087 lb • 20.1 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:30 3.4" pulley • AL104 plugs • 180º t-stat • FWI w/K&N • 1.9:1 rockers • OR pushrods • LS6 valve springs • SLP headers • ZZP fuel rails KYB GR2 struts • MaxAir shocks • Addco sway bars • UMI bushings • GM STB • Enkei 18" EV5s w/ Dunlop DZ101s • F-body calipers EBC bluestuff/Hawk HP plus • SS lines • Brembo slotted discs • DHP tuned • Aeroforce • Hidden Hitch^^^ SOLD ^^^ '70 Ninety-Eight Holiday Coupe 455cid • 116k miles^^^ SOLD ^^^ | |

How much does that cost? I see $57,$89,$119 on the website but what is that a monthly amount?

| Yearly. $89 gets you a 100 mile free tow, $119 gets you a 200 mile free tow. You can do it once per year. For every mile over it's a few bucks per mile. _________________ '05 GTO 6.0L • 6-spd • 95k miles • 0-60: 4.8s • 16.9 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:26'95 Celica GT 2.2L • 5-spd • 165k miles • 0-60: yes'98 SC Riviera • 281k miles • 298 HP/370 TQ • 0-60: 5.79s • ET: 13.97 @ 99.28 • 4087 lb • 20.1 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:30 3.4" pulley • AL104 plugs • 180º t-stat • FWI w/K&N • 1.9:1 rockers • OR pushrods • LS6 valve springs • SLP headers • ZZP fuel rails KYB GR2 struts • MaxAir shocks • Addco sway bars • UMI bushings • GM STB • Enkei 18" EV5s w/ Dunlop DZ101s • F-body calipers EBC bluestuff/Hawk HP plus • SS lines • Brembo slotted discs • DHP tuned • Aeroforce • Hidden Hitch^^^ SOLD ^^^ '70 Ninety-Eight Holiday Coupe 455cid • 116k miles^^^ SOLD ^^^ | |
