I would not know if I fixed it. just willing to throw away the twenty on the cap.  Not too sound stupid, I did not know this panel existed. I guess I need to look on one of the sides of the trunk?

If you lift up the trunk lining, you'll see the panel.  It is secured with about 7 screws.  You'll need to pry it up.  It has a sticky rubber seal that is reusable, so don't be shy about prying on it.  The fuel pump is held onto the tank with a locking ring that engages 4 tabs that are an integral part of the tank.  They rot and the tank can leak there.  You really should take a look at it just to assess the condition.  See the thread below.

This is what it can look like,

Thank you both for taking the time to enlighten me. I pulled up the carpet and the access panel. My mechanic said the ring is fine. I had no idea GM put the fuel pump like this.

You are fortunate. Most of them are very corroded. I would have sprayed some fluidfilm in there to keep it that way.

Probably would have been a good idea or at least WD-40.

You should see how bad it is on the same vintage Camaro . . . IIRC you gotta drop the entire rear suspension. A lot of people cut an access panel in the floor instead.

Runs and rides great. 120k stalled auto 3:42 gears, tuned and upgraded suspension.
