| Subject: New system but a few questions Wed Sep 11, 2013 11:39 pm | |
| I just picked up this system for the '98 Riviera. Should sound pretty good once it is all hooked up: Alpine 2 DIN head unit, Alpine 5 channel amp, 2 JL 10" subs in enclosure, JL 5.25" front speakers and JL 6 x 9 rear speakers. I will get the system installed at the place I bought it but I figured I would install the speakers for now and run them off the factory deck with the factory wiring until my son can afford to get the system hooked up properly with the speakers running off the amp. (He's 17. Money isn't flowing as well as he'd like!)
Problem is, although the front 5.25" door speakers fit the hole no problem, the mounting holes don't line up with the factory setup. They are slightly smaller so I can't just screw them in place. Has anyone else experienced this and if so, what is the solution? The rest should hopefully bolt in no problem, but I expect that I will need to purchase a PAX unit of some kind to allow the volume and heater controls to work. Any advice or suggestions about this installation? Here's the components: https://servimg.com/view/18373746/22 | |

| That looks pretty nice, should sound pretty good. You should be able to install the headunit yourself without issue (I did mine myself with minimal prior experience. Turned out great.). You may or may not have to dremel some of the dash out for a double din. If it was a flip down screen you would certainly have to, but you might not with that unit. The only way to tell is to just try it. As far as the speakers go, could you just drill out the holes? I'm sure they can't be off by that much. Here is the steering wheel adapter you need for an Alpine headunit:

You can usually find them on eBay for pretty cheap.

That is the harness you need.

That is the antenna adapter you need. Again, all of this stuff can be found on eBay for much cheaper.

| Thanks for the info. I'm pretty sure the place I bought it from will have the items you mentioned. I ended up getting the speakers in. There was enough play to make it work. Now to get the whole system in. - matt270avian wrote:

| Nice, you should post some pictures when you can. I love seeing all of the different systems people have. | |
