This is what I did for mine. Drilled a big hole in an elbow and filed two slots, then put the IAT sensor in with it's gasket. I had trouble making it stay in so I wrapped the sensor and PVC in black vinyl electrical tape.[/url]

I put mine into a straight piece. Drilled the hole and made carefully fitted slots so I could put in the sensor and twist to secure. Worked out perfect cause the curve of the pipe puts just enough pressure on the sensors tabs to hold it tight but not mushroom the edjes or anything. I didn't even have to use any rubber seal or anything. For my new one, I may try a seal again just for S's & G's or perhaps silicone it a little bit.

Got my S&B 7" ordered. Just one quick question: How much does that straight section of PVC need to be cut down?

I read that article on the short ram intake and realized I was hurting my riv. pale I had heard before that it wasn't the absolute best for our cars, but I never would have that it was that bad.

Needless to say I will be joining the 4" FWI crowd. clap

It's not certain damage, but our engines need the coolest possible air when you mod for power. The short ram is especially bad when your car is stopped at idle, or when you have exhaust headers, which increase underhood temps.

I still want to do a FWI, but would LOVE to see someone's pic of their enlarged fenderwell hole to fit it in. I'm seeing about 4deg KR today on hard accel on my LS1M, ambient of 60, IAT of 70, and this is with my coated Plog now installed, 3.8 pulley back on, and gas at about 89 octane. Once I get down to about a quarter tank I'll fill with 91 again, was running the cheap stuff while I was NA.

I may go 3.5" instead of 4". Are you guys using a rubber intake adapter at the TB? I want to use a silicone 45deg adapter elbow there, but the silicone doesn't really stretch, though it is flexible. It is a reinforced/braided silicone. The TB outside diameter is actually a hair over 3.75" at the ribbed edge that the tube has to slip over. Wondering if I ought to go 3.75" with the silicone...

Mine is 4" dryer vent, but I assure you it's only prototype for now wink I did not put the IAT in it (it's just laying next to the hose, close enough for now) and the hole I made is NOT pretty. It needs some cleanup, and I'm going to put some door edge guard on the sheetmetal edge. I more wanted to get fitment right first.

The thing I don't like about it is that I realized the air opening in the bottom of the fenderwell area is actually the bottom of the engine compartment anyhow. This means the filter is exposed to road spray and lots of sand (my filter was NASTY), and it's just drawing engine compartment air anyway. I think a behind-the-headlight approach might be better. Then you can remove the headlight assy at the track for ram-air style action 3gears

I'll take some pics when I get rid of the dryer vent.

That article was what got me looking at our fender wells and discovering that there's a "heat window" down low that allows the air filter to suck in hot engine bay air. The FWI is good, but not perfect. There's still a lot of hot air in our fender wells. More info:

i used a 4" OD coupler and it fits very snug. i dont even need the clamps, but they are good insurance

The legs are both 6" long on it, should be a good fit to bend just at the overflow tank.

ok i want to do a 4" FWI, but my dad just doesnt like the idea of hard piping as it gets quite hot, and PVC supposably doesnt look good, so what can i do? Thanks for your help

Intense or ZZP intake tubing. its about 11-12 bucks a foot and supposedly works well. I have some sitting in my room waiting for me to have some free time right now.
