| Subject: Will GM Tech 2 work with 1995 NA and SC Riviera? Mon Apr 16, 2018 8:44 am | |
| It's on my to-do list to purchase a Tech 2 (or clone) for the 2006 Saab 9-3 that we bought recently.
As you may know, the Tech 2 is programmed for a given GM make by inserting the appropriate flash card into the Tech 2. So for the Saab, I'll be ordering the Tech 2 with the Saab card.
I believe the 1995 OBD1.5 Riviera was originally supported with the predecessor Tech 1, but wondered if the Tech 2 also supported the 1995? I would think it would, but who knows....
If so, I'd just need the correct GM/Buick card since I'm already buying the Tech 2 for the Saab.
Any idea if the Tech 2 supported the 1995 SC Riviera?
Thanks. | |

Thanks. ...by now you've figured out that Tech II supports GM vehicles 1992 - 2013. Scroll down to the Tech II listing on this PAGE. Kit comes with connector adapters for pre '95 cars.

| There is no "card" for certain cars. It does everything GM as long as it's updated. The card is in all TechII's, and is required for operation. If you have no card, you have a paper weight.
I seem to remember the TechII working on a '95 Riv without any adapters. There were a few pre '96's that utilized the TechII. The new Global Diagnostic platform did the same thing. It actually started in 2010 (Terrain, Regal, etc), but the already-in-production cars continued with OBDII until 2013. Now they're all friggin GDS.

| Right, but you need the right flash (PCMCIA) card loaded with SW for the Tech II to work with some specific GM brands, such as Saab. And depending on the model year, you may need various adapters like the CANDI module.
The "GM" card may very well cover all of Buick, Pontiac, Chevy, etc, I have no idea off hand, hence my asking.
Thanks.
