| Subject: Ignition Coil Pack part # for Supercharged 3800 Series II Engine? Mon Apr 22, 2019 1:02 am | |
| Looking to do a full replacement of the ignition coil packs, spark plugs and spark plug wires. Just unsure about the part # for the ignition coil packs used with the supercharged 3800. I believe its an ACDelco D576/GM#10477602. | |

| that is what Rockauto lists. (which is where I typically look to find part numbers, very often find their price is best also.) Most on the forum suggest AC Delco wires only, they are good wires at a decent price. BTW, if you have no SES light on you may not see any gains from all these replaced, if you are just doing for peace of mind, go for it.

What's your ignition issue? 2 of my 3 coils have over 350,000 mi/20 years of use and still test good. The other filed and was replaced because one of the original Delco wires failed. I had it replaced while traveling and subsequently replaced it again with a *junkyard* D576... and have not had to mess with it since.

| The Riv has sat for roughly a year or so, so I'm planning on doing a full replacement of the coil packs, plugs and plug wires just to play it safe before I take it back onto the road. | |

You might want to get a meter and check the coils. The OE coils for the SC 3800 engine are *tough* and very high output. I'd consider replacing the wires, if only because RockAuto has them pretty inexpensive ATM. I'd pull *every* plug & inspect condition and adjust gap. I'd test the coils - use an ohmmeter, measure to see that the primaries and secondaries match coil-to-coil and that there is no leakage primary-to-secondary on any coil. Again: 2 of my 3 coils have over 350,000 mi/20 years of use and still test good. The other failed at about 80-something thousand, I think, and had to be replaced -- because one of the original Delco wires failed. So... if you find a coil that is far of the others or has leakage, replace that. And while we are on the subject, if you do replace coils be sure to get the D576. You may not want to do this but what happened with me was after that first coil replacement my car had a slight lope. I thought it was a characteristic of the engine... nope. When the repair was done (on a Sunday) the shop installed what they could get, an NA coil. After a while I decided to figure out why the lope. I ohmed out the coils and found the resistance a bit high on the newest one. I found the specs (I think I posted them elsewhere on this site years ago) and found that 2 coils matched the SC coil spec and the new one was an NA. So... I went to a junkyard and got a set of coils off an SC Park Avenue... largely because I could still read the numbers screened on top... yeah that was it... ohmed them out too and re-pulled the original SC ones - then installed the three coils that were SC coils and perfectly matched each other. (they are pretty consistent). IIRC that was more than 150,000 miles ago.
