Ignition Hot Fuse Empty
PostSubject: Ignition Hot Fuse   Ignition Hot Fuse EmptyTue Jul 09, 2019 8:02 pm

Which fuses have any of you used to turn on something only via the ignition circuit with a tapped fuse (fuse with a pre-soldered wire attached for piggybacking something else off of it, in my case a relay for another device)? I checked the voltage on a few fuses under the seat in the back and there was no voltage present, yet as soon as I touch the tapped fuse to the 85 terminal on my relay it actuates it. I was going to use a voltage sensitive relay I bought last year to avoid fuse box troubleshooting and faulty relays but it appears I have misplaced it.

On my Jeep Cherokee with what I was doing that is not how the fuses are wired. One side of the fuse is a + and the other is a negative, so you can test right at the fuse terminals for continuity. It appears the fuses in the Riviera are all live positives and turning on the ignition connects the ground in the circuit(s) elsewhere.

Are the fuses by the steering column only activated on ignition?

Thank you in advance for your input!

Found the diagrams in my handy dandy FSM. The RH rear fuse block is hot at all times while the LH is ignition power only.

One of the things that makes it touchy to add accessories to the Riv is that people don't understand the "floating" wiring. All those circuits being live and turning on ignition to complete the grounds is how "floating" works.

It's also why it's important to CLEAN THE GROUNDS from time to time.

...So what you can do is find a circuit that switches with ignition, such as the accessory PowerPoint in the console.
