| A lady has contacted me wanting to sell her 95. She bought it new and it has been garaged till the last 6 months. She said it makes a strange noise and was told the supercharger is going out. Others have said it's probably the supercharger gasket. 128k miles and taken care of very well. The seats don't even look like they have been sat in and the carpet isn't dirty at all. The paint has just a couple of very small daily driver scratches. She got scared of it with the noise and needed to be punctual to her responsibilities so she just bought a new car. She won't sell it to anyone unless she thinks they will fix it and take good care of it. She was originally thinking $1500 but thought that might be too much since she was quoted around $1200 to replace the supercharger. I think I might can pickup this car as a nice daily driver for around $800 to $1000. Does it seem like it's worth that if all it needs is a new supercharger gasket or worst case a new supercharger?
What are some other things to look for or check out on this model?

| I'd buy it for that, if it's in as good a shape as you stated above I have a 95 and love it. Mine has 148000 and there is no way i'd sell it that cheap | |

| 800 is a very low price, there could be something else wrong with it. 1200 is also about 3 times what a new supercharger would cost, so even if it needs a set of rotors or a new coupler then you can fix it pretty cheap. the 95 models are most plentiful because they made ~41k of them in 95 and only around 10-18k each year after that (96-98, then only about 2000 were made in 99). the 96 and up models have a more powerful and more available series II engine, so if you can hold out for one of those then you will be able to mod more, but any riviera is better than most cars on the road! look for some of the options like heated driver seat, lumbar support, traction control, sun roof, 12 spoke rims, electrochromatic mirrors, and wood dash. good luck! | No she isn't selling it for 800, rather she's thinking 1500 but since she knows it needs repairs and she has been quoted 1200 to replace the supercharger she knows she might not get anywhere close to 1500. I'm not interested in modifiying the car so it doesn't have to be a Series II. - Mr.Riviera wrote:

| I BET MONEY...the supercharger isn't bad. I bet the tensioner puller or something else is making the noise. Worst case the couple might be bad, but the s/c rarely goes out in these cars. BUY IT! Hey Jayson! I just realized who you were! Glad you joined us! Welcome!...call her today and tell her you'll take it for $900 since it needs so much work. You're going to need a bigger garage with all the Rivs you own. What will this be...number 4? | |

The noise could be the coupler too. They rattle pretty bad once they go bad.

If I were you tho I would go for it. WTF! I know you can do much more with the series II engine, BUT that doesn't mean all the 95's are a POS and not worth a thousand bucks! Give me a break. Sounds like a nice ride.

| Series Ones are cool. Nothing wrong with '95s if you want a nice, quick daily driver. Not for track times, but other than that great cars. _________________ '05 GTO 6.0L • 6-spd • 95k miles • 0-60: 4.8s • 16.9 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:26'95 Celica GT 2.2L • 5-spd • 165k miles • 0-60: yes'98 SC Riviera • 281k miles • 298 HP/370 TQ • 0-60: 5.79s • ET: 13.97 @ 99.28 • 4087 lb • 20.1 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:30 3.4" pulley • AL104 plugs • 180º t-stat • FWI w/K&N • 1.9:1 rockers • OR pushrods • LS6 valve springs • SLP headers • ZZP fuel rails KYB GR2 struts • MaxAir shocks • Addco sway bars • UMI bushings • GM STB • Enkei 18" EV5s w/ Dunlop DZ101s • F-body calipers EBC bluestuff/Hawk HP plus • SS lines • Brembo slotted discs • DHP tuned • Aeroforce • Hidden Hitch^^^ SOLD ^^^ '70 Ninety-Eight Holiday Coupe 455cid • 116k miles^^^ SOLD ^^^ | |

But how can you beat a great condition car (besides the s/c) for $800?

| I don't care about a 95 parts car or fixer upper because I have no use for one. I never implied they are POSs. Thats why I told him to go for it. | |
