| It's the pink stuff, there are a few different brands of Dex-Cool. It's pretty cheap right now, can get at any gas station or auto parts store. If you haven't changed the coolant in a while, consider a flush. Sears does it for about $60 (coolant included). _________________ '05 GTO 6.0L • 6-spd • 95k miles • 0-60: 4.8s • 16.9 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:26'95 Celica GT 2.2L • 5-spd • 165k miles • 0-60: yes'98 SC Riviera • 281k miles • 298 HP/370 TQ • 0-60: 5.79s • ET: 13.97 @ 99.28 • 4087 lb • 20.1 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:30 3.4" pulley • AL104 plugs • 180º t-stat • FWI w/K&N • 1.9:1 rockers • OR pushrods • LS6 valve springs • SLP headers • ZZP fuel rails KYB GR2 struts • MaxAir shocks • Addco sway bars • UMI bushings • GM STB • Enkei 18" EV5s w/ Dunlop DZ101s • F-body calipers EBC bluestuff/Hawk HP plus • SS lines • Brembo slotted discs • DHP tuned • Aeroforce • Hidden Hitch^^^ SOLD ^^^ '70 Ninety-Eight Holiday Coupe 455cid • 116k miles^^^ SOLD ^^^ | |

| 8 oz RMI 25 plus water in the summer or non freeze states. When I blew a head gasket into my intake I drove for 25 miles and had no bearing damage or any internal problems. You can also add the RMI to antifreeze.

| From the factory, I don't think Dexcool came into play until '96. Are you doing a total flush, or just adding some? | |

| Dexcool started in '95. If you're just adding some coolant temporarily throw water in there. | |

| Isnt there a big argument on which type of coolant is better, dex cool or the green stuff? I think you can use the green stuff if you flush out all the dex. But IIRC if you mix the two coolants than $h!† gets messed up. | |

| You should be safe adding water, but it should not be tap water, use distilled water from the store. How much are you thinking you'll need to add? Did you overheat? | |

| Water works fine as long as it doesn't freeze. Distilled is preferred because it doesn't have metallic particles that can corrode passageways. For a short time, you could get away with clean tap water, imo.
At the race track nearby, in order to race, you must drain all of your coolant and replace with 100% H2O. Good luck on your journey for Dexcool! _________________ '05 GTO 6.0L • 6-spd • 95k miles • 0-60: 4.8s • 16.9 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:26'95 Celica GT 2.2L • 5-spd • 165k miles • 0-60: yes'98 SC Riviera • 281k miles • 298 HP/370 TQ • 0-60: 5.79s • ET: 13.97 @ 99.28 • 4087 lb • 20.1 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:30 3.4" pulley • AL104 plugs • 180º t-stat • FWI w/K&N • 1.9:1 rockers • OR pushrods • LS6 valve springs • SLP headers • ZZP fuel rails KYB GR2 struts • MaxAir shocks • Addco sway bars • UMI bushings • GM STB • Enkei 18" EV5s w/ Dunlop DZ101s • F-body calipers EBC bluestuff/Hawk HP plus • SS lines • Brembo slotted discs • DHP tuned • Aeroforce • Hidden Hitch^^^ SOLD ^^^ '70 Ninety-Eight Holiday Coupe 455cid • 116k miles^^^ SOLD ^^^

What a PITA if it is. For true race cars though, water-only makes complete sense and is very commonly done.

| i have 140k Dexcool miles with original radiator, hoses, water pump, and engine. Still running nice and cool!
Dave, the track I'm referring to is a closed road course in northern Ohio, not a drag strip. _________________ '05 GTO 6.0L • 6-spd • 95k miles • 0-60: 4.8s • 16.9 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:26'95 Celica GT 2.2L • 5-spd • 165k miles • 0-60: yes'98 SC Riviera • 281k miles • 298 HP/370 TQ • 0-60: 5.79s • ET: 13.97 @ 99.28 • 4087 lb • 20.1 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:30 3.4" pulley • AL104 plugs • 180º t-stat • FWI w/K&N • 1.9:1 rockers • OR pushrods • LS6 valve springs • SLP headers • ZZP fuel rails KYB GR2 struts • MaxAir shocks • Addco sway bars • UMI bushings • GM STB • Enkei 18" EV5s w/ Dunlop DZ101s • F-body calipers EBC bluestuff/Hawk HP plus • SS lines • Brembo slotted discs • DHP tuned • Aeroforce • Hidden Hitch^^^ SOLD ^^^ '70 Ninety-Eight Holiday Coupe 455cid • 116k miles^^^ SOLD ^^^

Is there better alternatives to Dexcool or should I stick with it when it's time to change coolant? no, seriously, the water around here is that bad!!!! A gallon of water looks like a manilla folder. When we first open the hose valve outside after winter, it just pours out rust. we have reverse osmosis for drinking water.

| You will want to be sure your coolant mix is appropriate before you see freezing temps again. How cold does it get this time of year? | |
