| Subject: i need some help with my new deck Sat Nov 24, 2007 3:36 pm | |
| for christmas im looking to buy a new deck, it has to be a touch screen with DVD, so im looking at some cheap decks, i found one that i like http://cgi.ebay.com/JENSEN-VM-9311-7-LCD-MONITOR-NEW-MP3-DVD-VM9311_W0QQitemZ280174452585QQihZ018QQcategoryZ32825QQtcZphotoQQcmdZViewItem but will they work with our "sunshade dash" i love the look and it has everthing i want, but since the screen is motorized i dont want it to hit the top of the dash please help me out | |

| More than likely you're gonna have to have the unit mounted sticking out of the radio slot...so the screen will clear the dash....which IMO ruins the look, hence why i havent done this. I've seen some Riv's for sale and on cardomain with aftermaket decks and with a DVD it always looks bad, cause it sticks out. | |

| maybe you could put it where the cd holder is? I've taken mine out, still trying to think of what to put there.. i've been working on piece of hobby wood with the Riviera in cursive carved into it, and I want to put a peice of clear plastic behind it then do some LED backlightning.. i think the screen would look nice there | |

| i dont think that kit will work b/c of the shelf. you need a lot of room for the wire harness. my kit fits well, but i dont know what the part # is. just a gm kit for buicks with a block off plat on the bottom half. the rivs head unit depth is very shallow so you may have a problem fitting the dash back over the new unit, or you can cut away some of the plastic at the rear of the deck. are you getting a PAC SWI-x too? _________________ 1996 with 254k miles, L32 4" FWI -> ported N* -> Ported Gen V w/3.0" Pulley, Stage 3 Phenolic I/C, ZZP FMHE, 1.84 RR, Headers and 3" pipe to mufflers, F-body brakes, and lowered on Eibachs. -RIP AMG C400 White on black. | that looks like the same kit I had before I had my EQ. Actually that one has a raised face plane. Mine was just flat. But anyway, it mounts fine. Matthew, does your kit set the head unit forward from the dash?
Like Matthew said, I would just cut the plastic out from behind the head unit area to give some more freedom. If you do that, you should have no trouble at all using the flush mount kit like that.
Before I had the EQ and all the extra wiring, I was still able to mount it flush without cutting the plastic but it's definitely worth it to cut that booger. | |

| a picture is worth a .... well its just easier to show than tell FWIW i had more fitment problem with my old alpine than i do with the new kenwood, so maybe they are making them smaller than they used to? or it could just be manufacturer differences. eihter way, there is really no way to know how it will fit until you get it in there. but it shouldnt be anything major. _________________ 1996 with 254k miles, L32 4" FWI -> ported N* -> Ported Gen V w/3.0" Pulley, Stage 3 Phenolic I/C, ZZP FMHE, 1.84 RR, Headers and 3" pipe to mufflers, F-body brakes, and lowered on Eibachs. -RIP AMG C400 White on black. | Subject: Head unit install question... Thu Jan 17, 2008 12:48 pm | |
| Ok so i went to a shop today to get my sony head unit installed because ive had terrible luck installing head units on my own... Anyway when i get there the guy tells me since it was a premium sound system he has to order a special adapter and it will cost me about 120 bucks to get it installed... and another 75 to retain the steering wheel controls... the 75 sounds about right for the controls ( it includes the interface) but i think hes trying to screw me with the unit install... anyone else agree? | |

| he said something about needing a ribbon adapte for the wiring harness.... but i found another place in town that'll do it for 75 with the adapter and dash kit so that seems a bit more reasonable. | |
