| i need a front bumper now, because my baby was a vic in a hit and run. the cops have yet to do anything, even though i gave them the plates, and they said the description i gave matched the car the plates came back for.
nonetheless, i need a front bumper, so i was thinking if you had been working on a design i would be happy to purchase one. i like the one on the 3rd page at the very bottom and the rear bumper off of the 4th page that sum what looks like that. get back at me.

It is a foam piece over the aluminum bumper. The reason I didn't remove it is that it is molded a little tighter than the rear one. From the picture it shows that around three to four inches past where the bumper cover and the hood come together there is nothing but empty space. That cover is around three to four inches thick also, so you could carve away that much and get the look you desire? I'm still confused. How far forward of the hood does the actual bumper extend?
I wonder what the foam is for - does it support the bumper cover? This is how thick the foam is on the front of the aluminum bumper:You could measure this far back and that is where the actual "BUMPER" ends, I'd guess. A little late but figured I'd put it out there.

| It's very probable that once the intercooler gets done, I'm going to do something like this. The L x W size is almost perfect. I just need to see how I can curve it a smidge to fit into the bumper. If I cannot make that work, it's probably going to be a universal black mesh kit but I'm definitely going to do something. I want that heat exchanger to get ample airflow through it. More ideas, suggestions? | |

A little late but figured I'd put it out there. A little trivia about the foam - I asked a person in GM R&D about that foam (casual dinner conversation) and learned that it's there to absorb and distribute the forces form a low speed collision. It works and it doesn't. It works in that it sucks up enough force to leave the frame etc. unscathed in a collision where the speeds (the Riv and what it collides with) don't exceed 10 MPH. It does not work in that the bumper skin and trim around it are sacrificed in any hit above a certain speed - such speed depending on the angle of collision and other factors. This "system" is why the Riv has such a massive front bumper, rigidly attached to the frame - the idea is to concentrate the force and damage form a low speed collision in the front bumper foam. Odds are if the total speeds are below ~6 mph that other than scratches there'd be no damage other than cracking in the paint. But don't hold me to that...

| Hey, Turt, IMO, It looks all wrong. Unless you change the jutting bumper, it will always look "off" with airflow through it. Its because the eye naturally recognizes that its a bumper, and having large holes through a structural thing like that will always look a bit wrong.(even with no actual bumper under there.) I applaud the functionality on it, but visually I'd say, no. For inter-cooler airflow, best fit would be 600 for the front sqrivi kit. Any other change for more airflow would require just as much modification to make look right. Maybe can the IC be dropped much lower, and vent in under the bumper? that would look ok. _________________ | |

| Eric's IC install I'm probably going to be hanging my radiator about the same way Eric did his which appears to have the mount tabs sitting on the core support so it probably can't/shouldn't go any lower than that. The lower wind foil on the bumper looks like it pretty much meets the bottom of the radiator too so really the bottom of it is in a good spot. From the looks of things, most of the top of it sitting right behind the bumper support wall. Looks-wise, it's very hard to imagine exactly how that will appear but the way I'm thinking about doing it is cutting the aluminum and cushing right along the beams so that if you look in, there's a fully enclosed channel. I'm going to kinda go with my instinct on that when I'm cutting the beam to put in the front mount and make a decision once I get to that point. | |
