| I never have really understood the purpose of a 180 dg. therm. Can someone help me out? Thanks. Russ | |

| Your thermostat will open to cirulate water at 180 degrees instead of the OEM 195 degree stat. SC engines like the cooler temps. from what I understand. | |

| Just switching to a 180 from the OEM 195 may not make much difference in your actual operating temps though. I did the 180 swap last spring, and saw no diff in op temps at all, UNTIL I also got my fan turn-on settings adjusted to come on at 185deg. Your coolant will start circulating sooner, but the fan settings make the big difference. | |

| Agree. The 180 lowers temps when driving, but at idle you need the fans on to keep it consistent. A PowrTuner or HPTuners unit is required make the change, or performance PCM swap will do it. Problem is, you don't have these options for Series I, so it would need to be programmed custom by someone who knows. _________________ '05 GTO 6.0L • 6-spd • 95k miles • 0-60: 4.8s • 16.9 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:26'95 Celica GT 2.2L • 5-spd • 165k miles • 0-60: yes'98 SC Riviera • 281k miles • 298 HP/370 TQ • 0-60: 5.79s • ET: 13.97 @ 99.28 • 4087 lb • 20.1 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:30 3.4" pulley • AL104 plugs • 180º t-stat • FWI w/K&N • 1.9:1 rockers • OR pushrods • LS6 valve springs • SLP headers • ZZP fuel rails KYB GR2 struts • MaxAir shocks • Addco sway bars • UMI bushings • GM STB • Enkei 18" EV5s w/ Dunlop DZ101s • F-body calipers EBC bluestuff/Hawk HP plus • SS lines • Brembo slotted discs • DHP tuned • Aeroforce • Hidden Hitch^^^ SOLD ^^^ '70 Ninety-Eight Holiday Coupe 455cid • 116k miles^^^ SOLD ^^^ | |

| having a good clean cooling system with an additive like water wetter or purple ice will also help keep temps consistent. name brand t-stat doesnt really matter much, i think i got Stant, and i havent had any problems here 5yrs in. they rarely fail unless your coolant is nasty. _________________ 1996 with 254k miles, L32 4" FWI -> ported N* -> Ported Gen V w/3.0" Pulley, Stage 3 Phenolic I/C, ZZP FMHE, 1.84 RR, Headers and 3" pipe to mufflers, F-body brakes, and lowered on Eibachs. -RIP AMG C400 White on black. Not at all, it's just that would provide the most benefit, especially in stop & go traffic. | |
