| I am trying to order a carpet set for my car at the local dealership. I want the charcoal but my car came with '97 gray.. they didn't make a charcoal or black in '97. They made the charcoal in '95-'96 I think (and they verified it on their system) but I can't order it unless I have the vin code for a '96 charcoal equipped Riv. I'm going to have to make one up. Anyone have the breakdown of vin numbers and what they mean for the "96? | |

| And I don't think the VIN tells anything about what color carpet the car got. | |

| It was a phone conversation... I have dealt with this problem a few times before (suspension and brake upgrade). Vin or there might be another name for it but it is should tell what the car was stock.. center consel, shift, bench, etc... color might be in the build sheet. Color is probably not as important than actual shape... | |

| I doubt there are any aftermarket ones yet, the only other option might be to get a good used carpet and have it professionally died? | |

| I posted Auto Custom Carpets phone number - use the SEARCH function to find it - phon them. Riv floor pan not that different from Park Avenue except the center console, ACC should be able to make you one.

| Yet again, I'm behind the curve, posting from an aged thread, looking for the site that provided Production Sequence info for various Rivieras, mine being a 1998. I recall doing this for my '95 Riv wya back, and would now like to know exactly what colors my '98 exterior paint is, and what color my interior upholstery is. So many grey/silvers, inside and outside on these cars.
I had originally planned on swapping out my beautiful dark teal interior from my '95 into the '98, but I'm no longer sure if I should ditch the grey interior of the '98. I have a Majestic Burl dash kit coming. I believe that's the same kit Randall (99RivMan) applied to his '99 Riv and the interior seems the very same shade of grey/silver I have. So, that could work out well, leaving me many choices were I to change the exterior color. > Which brings up a question. The clearcoat seems to be cracking and fading, but does that mean the paint underneath has hit the wall? > Anyway, my questions is: where can I have my production sequence decoded without paying some doofus site a double sawbuck, plus, to get that info?

| All the RPO codes including paint are on the back of the spare tire cover in the trunk. BTW, my sequence # for my 98 is 707832. _________________ 98 Riviera SC3800 All stock except gutted air box. 1970 Buick GS455 Stage1, TSP built 470BBB, 602HP/589TQ Best MPH, 116.06 MPH, Best ET, 11.54 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UHCda-t_Jls https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sfT2tEO4XcU

| Forgive my ignorance, Larry, but help me make the leap from codes to facts. What does the 7 in 703112 mean, for instance?
I'm not getting that connection.

| You are reading too much into it. The last 6 digits are simply the production sequence, that's all. My Riv was 4720 Rivieras after yours. The RPO codes on that sticker detail all the options on the car. < _________________ 98 Riviera SC3800 All stock except gutted air box. 1970 Buick GS455 Stage1, TSP built 470BBB, 602HP/589TQ Best MPH, 116.06 MPH, Best ET, 11.54 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UHCda-t_Jls https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sfT2tEO4XcU

| Late getting back to this issue, but... The RPO codes reveal that my exterior paint is Stone Beige Metallic. The interior trim code seems to be Medium Neutral II. Testing a few off-the-shelf spray paints (that were close, but no cigar) I found that SEM Color Coat #15223, a flexible spray paint engineered to work on plastic, metal, carpeting and leather is an exact match for my interior. In the photo, all the trim within the console, and below the dash vents has that color paint. Granted, these parts are mostly covered by the burl applique, but the match is very good. You'll note that my current seats have been sun-bleached after 23 years, but this paint is sure to do the job of resurrection, whether I use these seats or another less worn set I have. Hoping to find a reasonable paint shop for the exterior. The topcoat is delaminating in slow motion, among other minor blemishes. | |

| Lookin' good! Now you need some big rubber floor mats to keep that carpet clean. I've gotten a couple sets off Ebay for $15 that have been great. For the money I think China paid me to take them! | |

| I think these are the ones I have in my Charger - Link
The set in the Riviera have two seperate rear floor mats, like these - Link
Here are my search results on eBay - Link
There are also rubber mats for the trunk - Link
I may go ahead and pick that guy up, or one without the Motor Trend logo.
I ordered my China mats up years apart, and they were the same heavy rubber although a different pattern. I'd buy them again although there is always a risk of getting burned with Chinese products.
BTW you can find these in black, grey, beige, or transparent. I have the grey ones in my Riv and they are a little dark to be a perfect match, but they're close enough. Better than black would be. | |
