| while the car is running in park and in drive sounds like rocks are in it sounds like around the torque convertor. usually can only hear it up to around 1.5k-2k rpms. the 2nd problem that is occuring is the car wont read temp. changed out the coolant temp. sensor and still not reading. | |

| The "rock noise" is probably a heat shield that is rattling around. There is a couple around the front manifolds and the one that gave me problems, is around the second O2 sensor. Don't know about the temp... | |

| "marbles in a can" sound is often the water pump dying. Or could be your supercharger coupler is worn (about worn out, actually). Or the heat shield mentioned above. (you'll have to put it on blocks and have a look)
No reading on coolant temp? Okay, did you just get the car and it's doing this or did it work before & quit after you did other work... or what?
By the way - also - how many miles on your Riv? Sometimes these problems are related to components reaching their, ahem, engineered lifetime.

| My transmission made a similar sound, along with a whine (sounds like power steering), about 6-9 months (20k miles) before it failed. Do you have a modified air intake? _________________ '05 GTO 6.0L • 6-spd • 95k miles • 0-60: 4.8s • 16.9 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:26'95 Celica GT 2.2L • 5-spd • 165k miles • 0-60: yes'98 SC Riviera • 281k miles • 298 HP/370 TQ • 0-60: 5.79s • ET: 13.97 @ 99.28 • 4087 lb • 20.1 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:30 3.4" pulley • AL104 plugs • 180º t-stat • FWI w/K&N • 1.9:1 rockers • OR pushrods • LS6 valve springs • SLP headers • ZZP fuel rails KYB GR2 struts • MaxAir shocks • Addco sway bars • UMI bushings • GM STB • Enkei 18" EV5s w/ Dunlop DZ101s • F-body calipers EBC bluestuff/Hawk HP plus • SS lines • Brembo slotted discs • DHP tuned • Aeroforce • Hidden Hitch^^^ SOLD ^^^ '70 Ninety-Eight Holiday Coupe 455cid • 116k miles^^^ SOLD ^^^ | |

| My 95 has the same knock(loud click) at idle right in the side pan of the trans, knocks a few times and goes away when i rev the engine, not real loud though. then i can make it knock by revving the motor twice back to back. ie: rev,...rev,.. idle down,... knock. guy at parts store said it might be the out put shaft bearing,? I told him it knocks coming into a parking lot, let off gas,... give it gas to move,..i get a knock, let off gas again and give it gas to keep moving,.. it's gone. and it's more of a loud click then a knock. another thing is when i test drove it, i knew it had a trans issue, owner said it slipped going around corners once a week. so when i drove it I did a full peddle take off . the car leap up and took off 1st, 2nd, half way through 3rd it kinda popped and lost power, till i backed off the peddle, trans reengaged fine, and shifted into overdrive. as long as i don't hammer it, it shifts fine. I'm sure it needs a trans service, but if it's not a switch in the trans doing this, I ready to put a newer trans in it. (CV's are in good shape) any thoughts??? Thxz guys J. |
