Alpine IVA-w205 or 505 head unit plus Alpine PDX-5 amp Empty
PostSubject: Alpine IVA-w205 or 505 head unit plus Alpine PDX-5 amp   Alpine IVA-w205 or 505 head unit plus Alpine PDX-5 amp EmptyMon Mar 31, 2008 10:41 pm

I am thinking about replacing the Alpine CDA-9857 with one of the of the 2DIN 6.5" screen head units in the subject line. Adding an Alpine B205 Blackbird Nav unit to it as will and possibly Sirius radio. I already have the iPod cable and steering wheel control.

I am not really interested in flip up units that would cover the climate control unit when in operation.

Also replace the MRV-F450 5channel with the new digital 5channel.

Has anybody tried to do this? Crutchfield says it will not bit but the local installer disagrees.

Well, Crutchfield says that no stereo can fit into our dash opening, if I remember correctly. Yet, I've bought two Pioneer single-DIN units and they both fit in without problems.

I've been looking to do this myself actually, since I hate the unfinished look a single-DIN stereo gives the dash. If only the opening didn't have the rounded corners, I might not be hesitant about getting a new double-DIN screen or unit.

I looked up the Alpine CDA-9857 that is currently installed. Crutchfield says it will not fit either. I was concerned about the look of the single DIN in a 2x DIN opening but it looks fine. I actually find the pocket useful for holding my sunglasses.

I went ahead and ordered a PDX-5 amp to replace the 5-channel that I have in there now.

Present MRV-F450 4 x 50 + 1 x 200
Future PDX-5 4 x 75 + 1 x 300

I also had the alpine v-12 amps (4 of them) and switched to four of the pdx amps. I don't think you will be disappointed, and you can't beat the size of the amps.
