Two things Empty
PostSubject: Two things   Two things EmptyWed Feb 28, 2007 7:48 pm

I just took that god awful hung of plastic off my engine, and degreased it (well needed) It's looking rather sexy now happy However, after running my engine for 15 minutes to dry everything off, I noticed a slight knock coming from what sounds like one of the supercharger pulleys.. I just had my serpentine assembly and the supercharged idler pulleys replaced, so this is puzzling to me... any ideas? Also, I was gonna go buy new plugs tomorrow, but i've heard that the plugs on rivieras are a 6!†©️h to change. any suggestions on what kind/how to change them?

our plugs are easy to change. takes me maybe 1/2 an hour.
our belts on the other had...
use autolite AL605 plugs if you have an almost stock car. they are copper, which works better in forced induction engines.
the knock could be the s/c coupler. take off the s/c belt and move the s/c pulley back and fourth to see if there is play before you turn the rotors.
for future times, it is better to let the engine dry than to crank it and boil it off, just in case a sensor is wet.

Plugs are pretty easy compared to other 3800 cars. I don't know why people have so much trouble. I can change out fronts & rears from above in half an hour.

Could be any of the idler/tensioner pulleys, the alternator, any of the accessories, or the blower itself. Might try removing the SC belt and securing it out of the way (you can zip tie it to the side while it's around the motor mount) to see if that narrows it down.

Heh, I wrapped all of my exposded electrical stuff in saran wrap, I let it sit for about 10 minutes, then I ran it. Don't you have to take the engine off a mount to get the SC belt off?

Can you post any tips on how to change the rear plugs?

Remove the engine cover and the hoisting brackets. That will give you more room to work. Also, I use a combination of sockets and adaptors that works well to access all of the plugs. Info can be found here: https://rivperformance.editboard.com/Series-II-3800-Supercharged-c2/Series-II-FAQ-f19/Which-spark-plugs-should-I-use-t26.htm

if you have flexable skinny arms then you can do it from the bottom, like i do.

I like to do them from the bottom, with a very short extension on the socket. But I have long arms, so it works for me.
