Eldo: Yeah,it feels good to at least nail it down. Albert: The K&N is only 2wks old at best.As far as the next move...well I'm running out of cash to throw at this thing for the moment,so I think I'll live with it for a while.I am fully capable of doing it myself, but one tool I come up short on in my rollaway at the moment is PATIENCE!! I just don't know if I can dive into that job any time soon without blowing a fuckin' spoke.I might just wait 'till I can scrape up the bread and pay the shop to do it (I know it's lame),but seriously I don't need another task or headache right now.I still want to check out that #3 situation too before I dig into the vac. leak issue. Not to mention I need to see if I'm still having the random misfire after changing the plugs/wires a few days ago.I don't have a scanner and it's really limiting as you can imagine.I have the battery disconnected right now so I can clear the codes/ses light. It would be nice to see that bastard not come on again now that I have changed the offending sensors.I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the misfire doesn't rear it's ugly head again.Do you know if a bat. disconnect will clear the saved codes as well,or just clear the ses light? I do not know if battery disconnect clears saved codes. I do not think paying a shop to do part/all the work is 'lame.' If you have good mechanic it does not matter what they charge as long as it's fair per the market in your area. If the mechanic is not good, even only a dollar is too much. If the wires are not misrouted maybe your wire replacement will work. I had a bad wire on my #6 cylinder some years ago - I remember that one. A connector crimp had loosened for some reason--I think I know why but this is your story not mine. Point is that the bad wire more or less killed the coil, I ended up getting really lucky, a well-trained mechanic on a Sunday at a chain store used a Tech I to diagnose. They pulled a replacement wire out of a 'junk box' at the facility and got a coil from a nearby parts store. After that, I searched around and found Magnecor wires, installed them, that was the end of wire problems--over 100,000 miles ago. Sounds like you're on a good track, we'll see what's next. Albertj

| Hey, I want to thank ALL of you guys that have been chiming in...I appreciate it.I went to the local guy I had put the struts on a while back and he scanned it for free (went back and gave him a 6 pack of Pacifico in thanks).Turns out the O2 was throwing up 2 codes.I got back home and checked it out, turns out it came loose.I knew putting it on with an open end might bite me in the ass.I ended up returning the Bosch anyways and picked up a Denso unit from another store, along with an O2 socket to do it right this time. The good news with all of this is after the scan I realized I have fixed the random misfire issue, and the MAF is obviously not throwing codes anymore. Now that I have cleared uo the o2 confusion that wraps up everything I wanted to fix engine wise(other than my Vacuum leak). Yay!!
Oh yeah I'm going to seriously look into that software that was recommended.Anybody know if it works on a Mac??I suppose if not I could figure something out...

SW is windows, can run on a Mac under a Windows emulator. Might want to go to obd-2.com and send Alex a note and ask him, he may have some ideas. Albertj

Parallels ought to work for CarCode - it is not a very demanding application at all. I think it runs on 386 or 486 and up. It runs on my Pentium M under XP. Albertj

| Update!! Car is out of the shop after doing the LIM gaskets (alum. of course),and valve cover gaskets to stop a tiny bit of visible seepage. The car idles rock solid now and has even picked up some power to boot!! NO MORE CODES WHATSOEVER!!Now those pesky transmission mounts...Grrrrr.It never ceases to amaze me just how shitty a car will run with a couple of vacuum leaks.I just wasn't expecting this car to have any vacuum leaks under the blower...hooray for spraying cleaner on it while running.I couldn't believe all of the places it was leaking from!! | |
