Yes. Just for the heck of it, I'll throw out the suggestion of using the V8 and transaxle from the new Impala SS. It won't bolt in but if you're good you should be able to make it work.

| Cadillac did make a FWD V8. In fact they made several. They have a 4.6L Northstar that came in two versions. A 275HP and 300 lb./ft. of torque which came in the base Deville, Seville SLS, and Eldorado ESC. The other is a 300HP and 295 lb./ft. of torque which came in the Deville DTS, Seville STS, and Eldorado ETC. Very powerful engines up top. These are DOHC engines. My mom has the SLS and I love the sound of it and like to go WOT almost every time I drive it. It sounds even better with a Corsa exhaust.
They also made a 4.0L version that came in the Aurora with 250HP and 250 lb./ft. of torque, these engines are dogs.
Another engine is the 4.9L V8 that came in the 1991-1993? Eldorado/Seville/Deville. This engine puts out 200HP and 275 lb./ft. of torque. Very powerful down low, but kinda runs out of power up top. I owned a '91 Eldorado with this engine. This engine is OHV. 16 valves.
There is also a 4.5L version, but it's less powerful and less reliable.
If you're looking for Cadillac performance engines you should check out http://www.chrfab.com/ but these are mostly for sandrails.
Northstars have the most performance potential.

they dont offer a series 1 pulley, They'll have the puller. At least, I'm not aware that there are different pullers for series I and II. - palermocorey90 wrote:

The Riv is basically a 2 door STS with a cheaper suspension, right? Do you know if the STS motor bolts up without modding? What kind of mods are there for the N*? Can newer N*'s be swapped in to replace older ones?

| I have thought about a V8 sawp into my '95 Riv as well. I come from driving only V8's and at first the thought of a V6 really turned me off to the Riviera. But since the 1995 models came out I had always wanted one, such a beautiful shape and great looking interior. I'm only 25 and the need for monster speed is not a priority with me anymore, well at least with the Riv. I also own a 1979 Oldsmobile Delta 88 with a Rocket 350 which is my prodject car. I think the s/c 3800 is a strong motor with some very nice torque and dropping the Aurora V8 in wouldn't warrent the work needed to make it work properly. | |

| the aurora motors are slow at least in the 95 in the newer model its a quicker car but i would not want to put anything off the aurora into my riv i got the riv because i was stuck driveing my brothers 95 aurora for a while i hate that car with a passion everything about it shure it goes fast ..... eventually but its just not built well (could be that individual car) but i hate all of them because of it | |

| Aurora's aren't built as well as Riv's, which is one of the reasons I held out and paid more for a Riv.
I agree the detuned N* in the Aurora is not worth bothering with, but Caddie N*'s could be a different story.

What kind of mods are there for the N*? Can newer N*'s be swapped in to replace older ones? They don't really leak oil, but they require 8 quarts at every change. They do have a bad history of blowing head gaskets, but my mom has 150k on hers and the engine has never had that problem. You do however have to WOT every now and then, because if you don't the carbon will build up on the valves. I have no idea if the engine bolts up. I do know that they Caddies use a 4L60E tranny so that would have to be swapped in as well. For the N*, there aren't many mods, but you don't need a lot. CAI, Exhaust, 80mm throttle body and ported heads will really wake them up. I really have no info on swapping them. Sorry. I've always wondered how much work would go into swapping one in. It would be awesome to see one.

| I've heard different about the Northstars leaking oil. I've read it is a common problem. But the bigger problem is, say that you do have a leak and want to fix it. The 3-part block design makes it very difficult and/or expensive. Maybe the reason they have a bad rep is because so many owners with leaks don't see it worth fixing, so they just let it be. _________________ '05 GTO 6.0L • 6-spd • 95k miles • 0-60: 4.8s • 16.9 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:26'95 Celica GT 2.2L • 5-spd • 165k miles • 0-60: yes'98 SC Riviera • 281k miles • 298 HP/370 TQ • 0-60: 5.79s • ET: 13.97 @ 99.28 • 4087 lb • 20.1 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:30 3.4" pulley • AL104 plugs • 180º t-stat • FWI w/K&N • 1.9:1 rockers • OR pushrods • LS6 valve springs • SLP headers • ZZP fuel rails KYB GR2 struts • MaxAir shocks • Addco sway bars • UMI bushings • GM STB • Enkei 18" EV5s w/ Dunlop DZ101s • F-body calipers EBC bluestuff/Hawk HP plus • SS lines • Brembo slotted discs • DHP tuned • Aeroforce • Hidden Hitch^^^ SOLD ^^^ '70 Ninety-Eight Holiday Coupe 455cid • 116k miles^^^ SOLD ^^^ | |

| Here is the Riv that GM did, I had put it in another thread before. I don't have any better pictures and GM didn't bring it to the ROA meet this year. | |

| What's the story on that one? I didn't know GM made any modded Rivs other than the 97 Wildcat concept. | |

| I'm not sure exactly, just that it was converted to the Northstar V-8? GM brought it to the ROA meet that was in AR in 2005. The guys that drive the trucks don't really have any information about the cars they just pull them in and out of the trucks at shows. That year they brought this one and the conv. and the last Silver Arrow along with a few others cars, nine total that year. | |

| The northstar caddies have the 4l80e.....it would be worthless to bolt up a 60e behind that v8..atleast all the caddies ive seen have the 80e.
I would personally like to get a Lucerne with the northstar, and get a blower setup from a caddy XLR-v.since HP supports the Lucerne.
