| Has anyone ever installed suicide doors on their RIV? I think it would be so great to do this. Does anyone make a kit to do this for the RIV? | |

| Sounds like a good idea to me would look kinda weird at first Im sure due to the design of the door, but how I feel about it is that its your car, so you do with it what YOU think will look good. Ive seen a few rivs with lambo doors and know you can get those hinges online, but I have never seen a riv with suicade doors, or even seen the hinges for sale anywhere. Good luck Erik | |

Google is your friend.
I wouldn't assume the latching area is strong enough to support the weight of a Riv door.
Also, "suicide door" isn't just a pretty name. They really are deadly. All it takes is an inattentive driver smacking your door while you're trying to get out to paralyze or kill you.

| I thought about it but given the Riv's forward doors (Basically meaning the fact the door is farther up on the car than it is back - if it were equally in the middle then maybe so) it doesn't seem like it would look right. I still think Lambo/scissor doors would be pretty cool. It's a stretch but you could think of it this way: | |

Goddamit that's exactly what I've been thinking of. The only thing is, the kits I've seen look like they need to roll the windows down for the door to open. I don't know about that.

| There are risks and there are risks. If you mod the engine and it blows, it costs money and will leave you stranded on the side of the road but it won't take your life. If you have a modded suspension or brake component fail at a critcal moment, the Riv's safety features will keep you from being seriously injured unless you're really driving stupid.
If a soccer mom on a cell phone catches your suicide door, the best case scenario may involve amputation. If you like having legs, forget about suicide doors. They don't even work with the shape of the car.

| Jack, what exactly are you talking about? What part of having a closed door makes a suicide door so much more dangerous? If you wear a seatbelt you won't go anywhere if the door happens to be opened. I think I'm missing some detail here... | |

| I believe he's referring to your vulnerability while getting in and out of the car with that type of door as a daily driver. | |

| Rickw is right.
Say you pull into a parking lot and open your door. You start to climb out - best case scenario, you've got your feet on the ground but your ass is still in the seat, when an inattentive soccer mom whips in to the spot next to you and shuts your door with all the force of a 5000 lb SUV. Goodbye feet!
Worst case scenario - your torso is crossing the front door jamb when the door comes in and smushes you like a nice big bug. Death!
Suicide doors are o.k. on show cars that are almost never driven, but they're far too big of a risk on a daily driver.
