Rebuild a Supercharger Empty
PostSubject: Rebuild a Supercharger   Rebuild a Supercharger EmptyTue Jan 06, 2009 6:59 pm

Sinse the wether as cone colder i have started to noticed more and more ratteling noise from the SC when i start the engine (when it's still cold)
but when it warm's up the noise is cone.
i readed from some topics that the problem is coupler?
my car as 140k miles on it.
the last owener told me that he changed the SC oil on summer and that the SC on my car was taken from a car what had 43k miles on it.
but...anyways ...the last owner lied to me about some thing's...so i'm anyways not trusting or beliving anythign what he told me. just want to be sure that everything will be done perfectly now.
So i was thinking if i will have to open the SC and change the coupler and oil.
i started to shearch from ebay.
and i found a rebuilding kit.
GM V6 3800 3.8 supercharger nose COMPLETE Bearing Coupler rebuild kit.

Includes the following:

2 Bearings from a ISO certified plant rated equal or higher than OEM
New High Strength Coupler (Not Pictured)
2 bottles of OEM Supercharger Oil (We use only the original oil that came in your supercharger)
1 tube of OEM aluminum red tube flange sealant. (we do not use a cheap sealer from a auto store in a blue tube)
New PCV Valve and gasket (Not Pictured)
Written installation instructions with phone support.
New Oil Shaft Seal made from high temperature material
New Oil Seal Snap Ring

is this all what i need to rebuild series II riv's SC?
are the price ok? cos i have no idea what those thing's relly cost in USA.

Timo,

You should know that replacing only the coupler is a lot easier than a complete rebuild. Also, the coupler is usually the reason for supercharger noise.

Replacing the coupler costs about $35 for the part, and can be done by removing the snout, but leaving SC pulley still attached. Takes about 1-2 hours.

Rebuilding the entire blower requires a bigger investment, and you must remove the snout and then pull the SC pulley off using a special tool. It is pressed on there pretty good!

Here is a write-up for a Series I blower. Series II is very much the same, but remember, you can do this with the blower remaining on the car:

Good luck!

that sound that you are talking about at startup are you sure its not your intake? when I start up it sounds very loud because I have a "short ram" air intake. or do I need to replace the coupler too......
