| I'm having some trouble with coolant leakeage and I think it's from the water pump. When the car is parked with engine turned off it drips at the front right and when the engine is running, it sprays all over the inside of the hood becuse it must be driping onto the belts somewhere. plus there is a squeling noise coming from that area, (one of the pulleys, but I don't know which one).
I see a write-up for the water pump for the series 1 engines and I just wanted to know if the series 2 is the same?
Thanks | |

| series 2 will likely be different, but not that hard. you are probably loosing coolant through the weep hole on the pump b/c the bearings are failing. or the lower radiator hose has a leak where it attaches to the motor. if i remember correctly, you will have to pull the motor mount bracket off to access all the bolts on the WP. there may not be a write up, but i know there are threads about WP's on a S2. _________________ 1996 with 254k miles, L32 4" FWI -> ported N* -> Ported Gen V w/3.0" Pulley, Stage 3 Phenolic I/C, ZZP FMHE, 1.84 RR, Headers and 3" pipe to mufflers, F-body brakes, and lowered on Eibachs. -RIP AMG C400 White on black. | Yeah I read your comments to Robertwolf86 on another thread about water pump instalation, but I can probably follow the same idea and sequence as the series 1, I hope. | |

| I think the actually use the same pump IIRC. I would think series I would be easier since they don't have the torque axis mount. | |

| What do you think of the AIRTEX brand for a waterpump replacement? | |

| Are the Cardone remanufactured water pumps available to you?

| I personally buy what brand is available at the local auto parts store and get a decent warranty. | |

| For water pumps I would stay away from reman and buy new, IMO. I've had piss-poor luck with reman water pumps. | |

| I have had bad luck with reman water pumps too, but did you ever have bad luck with a Cardone reman part? I've used them and they seem OK. For instance in the water pump they use severe duty roller bearings. I think fleet customer requirements drove that improvement.
Anyway - a few years ago Cardone ran a resaerch project at a university in Rochester NY in order to improve quality, which made a *dramatic* difference in their products. Their point was to do remans well enough to keep government/fleet business by pushing the focus somewhat away from unit cost to total value, and try to beat out the 'rattle can rebuilder' competition. They could show MTBF was longer with their parts, making them cost less over the planned life of the fleet vehicle.
So if you had bad luck specificaly with Cardone then I'll quit using them 'cause I don't need the delays, but so far the A-1 Cardone parts seem fine. I have not used a whole heap of them but what I've seen/used seems fine.

| The problems I had with reman parts were admittedly many years ago. Cardone has been around a long time. I had trouble with their wiper motors but the 70s wiper motors weren't that reliable to begin with..... | |

| Yes, it was only (very) recently they took a hard run at quality. And they are not the least expensive reman parts out there. New parts from China and India are often less expensive.

| Either one or the other. I have to agree with "Rickw" get which ever one is available so I did. It's an airtex and it's new not reman. If it's warm enough out here this weekend I'm going to try to follow the series 1 write-up and install it and a power steering pump and a couple of new belts too. As long as I have everything off I may as well. I noticed my power steering pulley is wobbling a bit, so I may as well replace it before it blows on me too. | |

| it may be the accessory tensioner b/c the pulley on the PS pump comes off with a few bolts, unless the pulley is bent. another good thing to do while you have it all apart is replace any old idlers, like the one by the engine mount. good luck. oh, and i think you are supposed to change the oil after a WP install. i know ours is belt driven and not chain, but i cant remember if there are open passages to the oil when the WP is out. anyone who has dont it on a S2 remember? _________________ 1996 with 254k miles, L32 4" FWI -> ported N* -> Ported Gen V w/3.0" Pulley, Stage 3 Phenolic I/C, ZZP FMHE, 1.84 RR, Headers and 3" pipe to mufflers, F-body brakes, and lowered on Eibachs. -RIP AMG C400 White on black. | Can anybody expand on this anymore? Can I follow the write-up for series 1 or not? Is there a major difference. I'll probably be going ahead with it this weekend no matter what the weather, it's making more and more noise every day that goes by. I guess I'll figure some of it as I go along and try to keep notes as I come inside to warm my hands up so I can post my own write-up for series 2. | |
