You could start with some rockers, a MPS pulley setup with a 3.5" pulley. If you want to put a cam in it (lots of labor) it's an even better place to start, and skip the rockers. The cam itself is not the expensive part... You could throw a PCM on it, they go for $99 from Intense racing. Rockers can be had used for reasonable prices on clubgp and the like, but you should use new springs IMO if/when you put rockers in it. A better idea is to come up with a performance goal or plan. Then you can figure out what parts you will need and start with the ones that will help you most. I will warn you like I warn all noobs - don't start by dropping the pulley size or you will have KR problems and can quite possible do some damage. A lot of people have been lucky, and quite a few have not and end up with a chunk coming out of a piston.

What's your budget? "Cheaper" can have a lot of different meanings.

| For a cheap and easy handling mod , look up Strut tower brace write up. For about 35 bucks and some labor ( took me like an hour , some years require more work than others) it delivers a nice improvement in handling and ride. | |
