| The tranny would not shift into lower gears on its own if a higher gear were selected. The gears had to be selected manually. After sitting in the sun for an hour the problem went away. I don't think anything is seriously wrong with the transmission, but I'm curious to know what causes a problem like this? | |

| i have a similar problem.when its very cold out. low teens to single digits. i let the car warm up for 10 minutes or so. it wont shift in to OD until i have been driving for 5-10 mins. which is pretty F-ed up
BTW for get about heat inside the car.all the heat goes to the engine

| I'm sure it was just the cold since the problem went away as soon as the car got to sit out in the sun for an hour or so.
The tranny has less than 90k on it and the fluid and filter have been changed within the last 1000 miles. Fluid level was o.k. I could cycle through all the gear manually.
The car sure didn't pull well from 0 in overdrive!
I don't know the exact temp, I would guess no more than 10 degrees at most. Probably zero or less down in the depths of the car.

| It's certainly odd. I've had cold starts of -25 and drove away after a 2 min warmup with no trouble at all. Still original trans? | |

| I had a similar problem (not temp related) after my trans was installed last year. The TCC would stay locked up, and when the PCM shifted down into 3rd or lower, the RPMs would go very low, and the car would buck until it disengaged somehow. Never did stall, but it acted like it wanted to.
In my case, I believe the transmission was shifting, but TCC would not disengage. I threw a code describing TCC locked on - after 3 or so runs with the problem. Once this happened, it stayed that way until I took it back to AAMCO.
They replaced the valvebody with a new one, problem solved. _________________ '05 GTO 6.0L • 6-spd • 95k miles • 0-60: 4.8s • 16.9 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:26'95 Celica GT 2.2L • 5-spd • 165k miles • 0-60: yes'98 SC Riviera • 281k miles • 298 HP/370 TQ • 0-60: 5.79s • ET: 13.97 @ 99.28 • 4087 lb • 20.1 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:30 3.4" pulley • AL104 plugs • 180º t-stat • FWI w/K&N • 1.9:1 rockers • OR pushrods • LS6 valve springs • SLP headers • ZZP fuel rails KYB GR2 struts • MaxAir shocks • Addco sway bars • UMI bushings • GM STB • Enkei 18" EV5s w/ Dunlop DZ101s • F-body calipers EBC bluestuff/Hawk HP plus • SS lines • Brembo slotted discs • DHP tuned • Aeroforce • Hidden Hitch^^^ SOLD ^^^ '70 Ninety-Eight Holiday Coupe 455cid • 116k miles^^^ SOLD ^^^

| Original trans so far as I know.
I didn't have any stalling problems, and I could rev the engine in overdrive. It wouldn't accelerate the car very fast though.
