| should run better just from removing all that carbon do you feel a difference in power now? or throttle response? _________________ 1996 with 254k miles, L32 4" FWI -> ported N* -> Ported Gen V w/3.0" Pulley, Stage 3 Phenolic I/C, ZZP FMHE, 1.84 RR, Headers and 3" pipe to mufflers, F-body brakes, and lowered on Eibachs. -RIP AMG C400 White on black. | it does run a little better. not really noticeable power difference but hey it was free and it looks a lot better. thinking i will notice it more when i swap to a 4" intake. | |

well... technically his MAF readings are most likely off a little... I'm sure he can tune it to operate better now than it is...

| Did you port your blower inlet to match? | |

| i think the blower inlet is 72 stock we only ported the throttle body to 71.64 from the stock 70 didn't want to port it 2 much. | |

| I just put in a Stage 1 TB from a 99+ style throttle body that i paid 125 shipped for....and I'm fairly happy with the money/effort vs. results. I haven't tuned yet , but throttle response is improved , no noticeable difference in WOT power , but seeing as how zzp claims .2 and 2mph a seat of the pants difference was not expected. The 99 TB in itself is better than the 96-98 models , as there is no huge bar for the MAF. I'll get pictures of this tommorow , though unfortunately I didn't take pics of the new unit.
Also it took some modification to vacuum lines to get it work on the 96 model with our silly vacuum controlled trans. But again i'm happy with this mod.

| my friend probably would of port and polished your stock throttle body for like $30-$50. | |

| zzp replaces the butterfly valve inside the TB with a larger one allowing the port job to be useful. i havent seen any DIY job come close to the zzp stage 1 TB. _________________ 1996 with 254k miles, L32 4" FWI -> ported N* -> Ported Gen V w/3.0" Pulley, Stage 3 Phenolic I/C, ZZP FMHE, 1.84 RR, Headers and 3" pipe to mufflers, F-body brakes, and lowered on Eibachs. -RIP AMG C400 White on black. I don't think theres much if any gain from porting unless you increase the buttferfly valve too. Not to mention the 99+ TB is a better design to begin with , which is another reason i went the route too. | |

| so the 99 MAF plugged in and ran fine w/out a tune on your 96? _________________ 1996 with 254k miles, L32 4" FWI -> ported N* -> Ported Gen V w/3.0" Pulley, Stage 3 Phenolic I/C, ZZP FMHE, 1.84 RR, Headers and 3" pipe to mufflers, F-body brakes, and lowered on Eibachs. -RIP AMG C400 White on black. It cranked up and ran fine. I probably need a little tuning though...did some scans today and saw about 2-3* of KR at some points , and i gained about 1 lb of boost. I expected to need some tuning since it is a nice jump in airflow. But in case you were wondering yes you can have my old MAF. | |

...if i get the car back together When are you planning on getting that? lol Good luck.... Also , my fuel trims are way rich now with the new throttle body...anyone have any ideas why this would be? I would think if anything they'd go lean....

| best guess if the new maf is overcompensating for the air. _________________ 1996 with 254k miles, L32 4" FWI -> ported N* -> Ported Gen V w/3.0" Pulley, Stage 3 Phenolic I/C, ZZP FMHE, 1.84 RR, Headers and 3" pipe to mufflers, F-body brakes, and lowered on Eibachs. -RIP AMG C400 White on black. was looking around today as I was finalizing what excatally I'm going to do to my throttle body when I put into the milling machine... gonna take the car off the road for some of the summer to do "things" that require more time consuming machining and downtime for the car. Found the above link, though it was neat to see some airflow simulations pre and post changes... scroll to the bottom.. little article....
And another image on the TB is in this little sales article: http://www.raetech.com/Engine/Fuel_Injection_Development.php _________________

| Please keep in mind when you do a mod like this that the calculations for airflow etc will be off and should be tuned. | |

I believe thats only true if you change the size of the butterfly right? Otherwise, if you taper to the normal butterfly dimentions, the theory is that because of the venturi effect even though the "orifice" is the same, because the air can compress easily, the possible velocity of the air is increased....(though only to slight gains) _________________

| The MAF sensor design is diffrent and the Maf tables for the 99 TB are diffrent.
I tried this and my car was slower. Load the 99 Maf tables then its a diffrent story.
