Superb work, Codith. Very well done, as expected. I originally wanted to do this with my car, but managed to get good enough results without IC (my goal was a durable 300 HP, high 13 sec car with improved handling). It's nice to see a Riv taken to the next level. Yours, ewolfe's, and a handful of other cars really do the RP discussion board justice. I would love to see this car in action on the street or at the track.

Thanks AA! Once I get the KR issues figured out, I'll be continuing to tune, push harder, and tune some more. Then I'll get videos and whatnot. Although I'm pretty terrified to take it on account of the transmission, It'll probably make a few 1/4 mi passes at Byron this year and go home once I've either gotten a time I'm happy with or not.

beltwrap bar all done and pretty
G/H body beltwrap spacers made by yours truly. much better than $11.00 a piece for something less ideal fitting I'll say
great belt wrapping

What do you estimate the HP and torque of Turtle to now be at?

Charlie I'm really not sure. Without being finished tuning and still figuring out the kr problem, I think it changes from day to day lol. Once tuning is done, I'd like to see around 375whp w/o spraying
quick vid while I started it up to make sure it was ok

Yeah! There's more historical posts like that that I come across from time to time. Some are kinda funny now. Owning this car and sharing with the forum has given me a medium to learn a lot. I've always had interest and a baseline level of knowledge but little experience. The experience is in constant flow now. When I bought the car in Jan 2007, it was just a car I always thought was neat and under-appreciated. This was the first car that I specifically chose by the way. My last car was a hand me down from my sister because she moved away to Japan and the car before that (first car) was given to me for free with a blown engine by my surrogate family. It took me an entire summer to put in a new long block. When I bought the riv I knew that I would upgrade the sound system, put together some sort of intake to make it louder and figured I'd eventually get around to putting a smaller pulley onto the supercharger for some more boost. I've gotten to this point without plans or goals, just the joy of tinkering. What's really interesting is how my tastes have evolved so much. If you really dig, there's lots of stuff I've done to the riv that appealed to me at the time and now I simply wouldn't have it. Anyway I'm really glad and grateful for everyone on this forum for help and inspiration.

You can't believe how inspiring it is for me to see your progress. I wouldn't know how to change my pulley if you gave me all the parts and tools and a half a day to do it. Couldn't even dream of installing an intercooler. You are a genius in my eyes. Many of you here are. You are my heroes. That and my love for this car is why I keep coming back.

also got these little guys
80lb'ers
I have put some thought into the transmission and I've tentatively decided that once this things takes a shit, it's going to be an 4T80E swap and 1998+ PCM. The torsen I have now could fund the majority of the swap. The trans is probably about 100lbs heavier and there's likely a slightly greater drivetrain loss through it but it'll be worth being able to do what I want with the car without sweating about it. AA start putting aside torsen money

Just a bump cause I was looking at your engine bay pics again. 8-ribs are sexy. There has got to be a way to do it with the series one...

It's 90f outside and driving around town today, I was seeing a fairly consistent 145deg IAT in town after a while. I can't quite remember exactly how IATs behaved with the FWI I used to have but I think I need to make another one. One thing that I hate about a shorty intake is when everything is hot, it gets hotter as you sit stopped but then when you open up the throttle to get going again it suddenly gets way hotter as the baked engine bay air enters the intake until air starts moving through the engine compartment. I don't want to have 30+ degrees of temp fluctuation while I'm driving around. Need a FWI again!
Anyway, I'm hoping to get those injectors put in tonight. My tuning computer is out of commission at the moment so I may have to throw hptuners onto my porn laptop to fix the tune for the new injectors. breaking some of my rules here but oh well
Other news, Manuel is nearly ready for his build now. I'll probably be doing his car in the next month or two tops. Basically it's getting an XPZ cam, the alex theus heads I cleaned and redid, full size WBS ic, the gen 5 blower I did at work, ebay headers, 60lb injectors, hopefully a 2.7 pulley. I told him I'm going to make it run but I'm not fine tuning it. I'm drawing the line there.

got my tuning laptop back in business so I hope to get some tuning started this weekend some time. I've already made the switch. I ran my tank empty and then filled with e85. The car took to it very well. In fact, with a god awful tune having just switched fuels, injectors, and a very skewed ifr table because I just changed it back to flat instead of curved which is what we initially tuned on, it started and ran about the same as with the gas. It killed basically all my kr dead. Absolutely nothing at WOT and my butt says its got more power. Can't wait to get tuning and then beat on it more!

This KR is driving me nuts! I was on the highway maf-logging and I could punch it and not see a blip of KR without any PE at all. E85 is sweet! After a little while though, I didn't see anything but pegged 15degrees KR while trying to cruise and with that much retard, the car feels pretty useless. I called it a day and went home from there. I'm not going to use logs full of KR to tune cruise ranges. Thankfully I'm pretty damn close to tuned in idle to light accel. After today, my open throttle mafs should be reasonable for driving. I re-enabled PE and have it set to drive normally until I figure out the KR thing. All of my high range adjustments have been pulling back fueling in the maf table so if anything I'll be a a bit rich on the top end right now but not insanely.
After I got back, I looked at spark plugs and they looked perfectly healthy. For some reason, my s/c belt walked out a rib and now there's some belt damage on the outside where it probably rubbed on something since it was sticking out where it shouldn't be. I see no reason for that either. More fuckin' headaches.
As for KR, I'm fairly lost on what to even investigate now. I'm compelled to think it is false as nothing that would traditionally reduce KR has had any affect whatsoever. I don't see anything that could be touching or vibrating around the engine or transaxle. The thing I might do next is just try to get my FWI built for the new setup so it's not sucking it heated air all the time. My average IATs are well above 100 degrees lately and they don't really go down much even on the highway. There's a small possibility that could be contributing to my KR but I dunno - my gut isn't believing it.

I don't understand. You have not even a blip of knock and E85 is sweet, but you are seeing 15 deg KR at cruise?!!! Lost me there.

exactly. At WOT, nothing. When I barely touch the gas (like 1-5% throttle) it pegs the KR and it stays that way unless I let off or give it more. It has done this in varying severity since I replaced the engine and everything Jan. I don't want to say this preemptively but I kinda think that it doesn't do it as much until it's hot and IATs are really up there because today, it wasn't very bad until after I was driving for a while. But I remember it always did it. I also know that both sensors are picking it up although perhaps not equally. I unplugged one at a time and still saw the same thing. I can sometimes drive the car to work and whatnot and not see it at all and other times like today, it's very persistent.
I have a wideband and the AFR is pretty much perfect. It matches desired AFR.

If you disconnected the mics, how is it detecting KR? Doesn't make sense. When you disconnect both sensors, does it register "0" or "15"? I believe 15 is max value, so that's a clue.

I unplugged one sensor at a time to see if one was picking up this false kr more than the other. Never had them both unplugged but I'm sure it'd just run normally and never report kr and set of the MIL for lack of activity or voltage.
