before i start getting too deep into building my car i want to scan for KR. Can autozone's or other parts stores scanners scan for KR? What would i ask for?

I'm fairly sure Autozone's only scans for codes. There isn't much functionality with them. I used to work there and never saw anything like that.

Yeah, many scanners you buy can't read KR. It was a $100 option for the AutoTap I have. There are about 4 levels of scan tool:

1) codes only = cheap
2) codes + basic parameters = $100-200
3) codes + enhanced parameters (KR) + $200-300
4) enhanced codes & parameters + many additional scan functions = $500+

If AutoZone used the higher end scan tool, they wouldn't be doing it for free. They may be able to see some of the basic parameters at best.

They only don't "scan" - they can read stored codes. KR is not an error code, it's a function of driving. You need a scanner that can log parameters and record other meaningful parameters while doing so. You can't get that kind of scan from Autozone or a code reader.
