| Hey all. I'm doing my front brakes this weekend. I got the front rotors too.
The only part I am not 100% on is these clips for the brake pads. I understand that they help to hold the pads in.
Does anyone have a pic of these on our cars?

| They keep tension on the pads, reduce noise & vibration. You can install the pads without the hardware, but the pads will rattle around, and may click switching forward to reverse. pad/rotor wear could also be affected.
What's the issue? They should just install between the pad edges and the caliper, and there's another one contacting the middle outside edge of the pad. _________________ '05 GTO 6.0L • 6-spd • 95k miles • 0-60: 4.8s • 16.9 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:26'95 Celica GT 2.2L • 5-spd • 165k miles • 0-60: yes'98 SC Riviera • 281k miles • 298 HP/370 TQ • 0-60: 5.79s • ET: 13.97 @ 99.28 • 4087 lb • 20.1 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:30 3.4" pulley • AL104 plugs • 180º t-stat • FWI w/K&N • 1.9:1 rockers • OR pushrods • LS6 valve springs • SLP headers • ZZP fuel rails KYB GR2 struts • MaxAir shocks • Addco sway bars • UMI bushings • GM STB • Enkei 18" EV5s w/ Dunlop DZ101s • F-body calipers EBC bluestuff/Hawk HP plus • SS lines • Brembo slotted discs • DHP tuned • Aeroforce • Hidden Hitch^^^ SOLD ^^^ '70 Ninety-Eight Holiday Coupe 455cid • 116k miles^^^ SOLD ^^^

| I haven't taken anything apart yet, I was just wondering how they looked on the caliper is all. I suppose I will know after I take apart the old hardware. | |

Like Aaron said there is nothing difficult about replacing them. They normally stay stuck on the caliper brackets so just R&R with new ones. With the 95's i think there are only clips on the outside of the pads, none on the center. but its been forever since ive seen a 95/96 caliper so dont quote me _________________ 1996 with 254k miles, L32 4" FWI -> ported N* -> Ported Gen V w/3.0" Pulley, Stage 3 Phenolic I/C, ZZP FMHE, 1.84 RR, Headers and 3" pipe to mufflers, F-body brakes, and lowered on Eibachs. -RIP AMG C400 White on black. | It was actually dead quiet when stopping believe it or not. The pads had a lot of material left. The rotors are sad, though.

Here I go answering my own questions again, but for anyone else with a '95 - the front caliper sliders from Dorman are #HW5053. The rears are Dorman #HW5056.

| As far as the caliper loading, the larger pad is a no-brainer as far as the clips, it pops right in. The other pad was not really clipped in, per se. It had two metal clips on the back, but these were inserted into the caliper piston. Is this the correct way the smaller (inner) pad should be installed? Was sitting right in that piston hole with the clips inserted there. | |

| Yes the factory pads should have a metal clip on them that holds them to the piston on the 95's and 96's. Its kind of a press fit if i recall correctly, been a really long time since ive seen the stock brakes on a 95/96 riv. _________________ 1996 with 254k miles, L32 4" FWI -> ported N* -> Ported Gen V w/3.0" Pulley, Stage 3 Phenolic I/C, ZZP FMHE, 1.84 RR, Headers and 3" pipe to mufflers, F-body brakes, and lowered on Eibachs. -RIP AMG C400 White on black. | Yeah, the previously installed one has one of the clips bent to fit into the bore, the new ones' clips are just as big as the old one so I'm assuming I'll have to replicate that bend. | |

| It would not be a waste of time to polish those guide pins as long as you don't polish off the plating. | |

| Thanks for the pics. I merged your thread with our existing brake write-up thread.
Just wondering - Did you clean the caliper before painting, or just paint over the old rust and grime? _________________ '05 GTO 6.0L • 6-spd • 95k miles • 0-60: 4.8s • 16.9 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:26'95 Celica GT 2.2L • 5-spd • 165k miles • 0-60: yes'98 SC Riviera • 281k miles • 298 HP/370 TQ • 0-60: 5.79s • ET: 13.97 @ 99.28 • 4087 lb • 20.1 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:30 3.4" pulley • AL104 plugs • 180º t-stat • FWI w/K&N • 1.9:1 rockers • OR pushrods • LS6 valve springs • SLP headers • ZZP fuel rails KYB GR2 struts • MaxAir shocks • Addco sway bars • UMI bushings • GM STB • Enkei 18" EV5s w/ Dunlop DZ101s • F-body calipers EBC bluestuff/Hawk HP plus • SS lines • Brembo slotted discs • DHP tuned • Aeroforce • Hidden Hitch^^^ SOLD ^^^ '70 Ninety-Eight Holiday Coupe 455cid • 116k miles^^^ SOLD ^^^
