First of all, hello to all. I am new to this board, and I have a 95 Riviera SC. I would like to know any, or all, source options for a donor engine . My block has three cracks in it and I need a new one. What other vehicles could I use with all my engine hardware without needing to reprogram a computer or having to alter under the hood? I am trying to do this on the cheap, since funds are tight and the cheapest aftermarket I could find was about $1,200. I am going to try salvage yards, but I would like to know what i need to look for. Thanks for your help.

Okay, let me modify this some. Outside the aforementioned, is the Series I only in the 95 SC? May seem like a dumb question, but I am tryingto be a quick study and take a crash course in Riv power plants and understanding what is compatable with mine. Again a 1995 Riviera supercharged. Thanx....

Will those series ones that are NA work without mods? If so great and thanks for your help.

I don't think the '95 Riviera got the Series I NA (L27). Can someone confirm? I believe there were two options for Riviera in 1995:

• Series I SC 3800 (L67)

• Series II NA 3800 (L36)

(Series II SC 3800 and Series II NA was used in '96-97 Riviera, '98-99 had Series II SC standard)

Series I SC was also offered as an option for the Buick Park Avenue, Oldsmobile 88 LS/LSS, Oldsmobile 98, and Pontiac Bonneville SLE/SSE. It was standard for the Bonneville SSEi.

For cheapest replacement, I'd look for a used Series I SC. That should be plug & play. Series II NA, although less expensive engine, would involve some work to adapt (mainly & wire harness PCM). I believe transmissions are also different between the SC & NA, but not sure.

If you're up for a swap, might as well go Series II SC, as they are abundant and offer a little more power.

Is there a year range they can be found or is there a possible VIN code to look for, or something on the engine if it is in car and I have to pull it, I would know what I am looking for?

thanks for you patience with me BTW. Just wanted to say that even if someof this seems redundant, I just want to make sure so I do not make a wrong move, and it would seem that Rivieras are in short in the Nashville area, let alone 95's.

AA, to my knowledge only '96 and newer (SII) S/C motors were designated L67. I am not sure what the '95 was called but it is a totally different engine than the later S/C motors. Otherwise you are on the right track, that list of Series I S/C cars is about right. I can't think of any to add.

That is what I have. Am familiar with it. Does the Series II look different? Can you or someone post a pic if it looks different? From what I understand the 95 Series I is an L67 as well.

Sorry, my bad. '95 is an "L67" but looks nothing like the Series II L67. Hunting for a good pic now, but here's some reading on the topic.
