PostSubject: corsa exhaust   corsa - corsa exhaust EmptyThu Nov 25, 2010 8:58 pm

I just bought a "new" 14150 Corsa exhaust built for the 99-04 Seville on craigslist. 2.5" mandrel bent T304 SS.
The workmanship seems top notch. I'll eventually get around to installing it and will report back.

First: I would very much like to hear it when you get around to installing it.

Second: You just can't help yourself, can you. Must keep on modding.

Which car is this going on, I'm getting confused, as of late.

Sort of. I've always wanted to find out if the STS exhaust fit the g-body Riviera. I think I'll be installing it on the modded riviera (green). Since both Rivieras are going to be used in the winter, the exhaust needs to be stainless.

PostSubject: preliminary examination   corsa - corsa exhaust EmptyFri Nov 26, 2010 4:52 pm

I took a few photos of the components of the Corsa kit. Here they are:
corsa - corsa exhaust 22714674003_large
The pipe is 2.5" x 0.065" 304SS.
The 3" cat-delete pipe and reducer are not part of the Corsa kit but of the SSautochrome header kit. I'll probably need to use at least the 3" section of pipe.
corsa - corsa exhaust 22714674002_large
The split is 2.5" into 2x 2.5". The split is much smoother than the stock one which is almost 90 deg and is 2.25" into 2x 1.875". The welds are above reproach. The Corsa kit comes with wall required hardware: high-quality 304SS torca clamps. The hangers are also 304SS.

corsa - corsa exhaust 22714674004_large
The "resonator" is 2.5" ID and has an 18" long case. The 2 mufflers are side-specific and have 16" long cases. The curve in the mufflers' neck will go a long way for proper tip placement.
corsa - corsa exhaust 22714674005_large
corsa - corsa exhaust 22714674006_large
Dual rear exit with fully polished 304SS 2x 3.5" Tips. I like them.

corsa - corsa exhaust 22714674007_large

The mufflers and resonator are different than most others. The inside is solid, with only a few holes. There are no baffles and there's no packing. I immediately wanted to cut one open to see what the inside of one looked like, so I looked it up. Corsa calls it "reflective sound cancellation" which is their fancy name for Helmholtz resonance. It's tuned for the N*, so I am really looking forward to hearing what it sounds like on the L67.

I just got a second "gently used" corsa cat-back. No need to decide which car to put it on now. Also, I'll be able to assess the sound on an otherwise stock riv happy

I got the starter changed today. Although I hate to get something so simple done at the garage, it's been way too cold to do it in the driveway. I brought some of the pipes of the corsa and did a mockup while it was on the lift. It looks like it's going to be an easy install.

The 2 main areas of concern are
1) Mating the 3" dp to the 2.5'' exhaust, which will require a 3-2.5" SS reducer. I can probably use an additional 3" clamp, but I'd rather get it welded
2) I'm not sure if the tips will contact the lower gray valance.

Karma is right. I need to pick up a 3" to 2.5" 304SS reducer and I'll be good to go. I finally found a place that could make one.

I sold the brand new one and kept the used one.
I'm picking up this one in Cleveland, so don't buy it out from under me.

PostSubject: Re: corsa exhaust   corsa - corsa exhaust EmptyWed May 16, 2012 11:10 am

Well the exhaust is installed. It fits with just a bit of tweaking. I like the look and material (304SS). The craftsmanship of this system is top-notch. The sound can best be described as "unrefined". Definitely not what you would expect a Riviera to sound like! It's tuned for a different engine and it shows. Corsa tuned it for the Northstar, so it's eliminating the unwanted frequencies that engine would be producing, but not some that the 3800 is prone to making. It's a bit weird because it's extremely quiet at cruise, with no drone at any of the RPM, which I like. Outside the car, I find it's quite loud at idle, especially right behind the car. I've never seen an exhaust that is so noticeably loud depending on where you are standing. The exhaust has somewhat of a "bark" or snarl and it screams at WOT. Personally I think the 3800 just doesn't sound that good to begin with so I think this is as good as it's going to get. I like it. I'm toying with the idea of welding in the old Magnaflow 3" "resonator" in front of the resonator on this one to see if it will tame the sound just a bit. It doesn't really need it, but I have the resonator so it will be free. I definitely prefer it to my old 3" single exhaust.

Here are some pics. I don't really mind if my plate is showing because I will be changing them soon.
