| Subject: Interesting noise... Anyone else hear of this on their Riv? Sat Sep 03, 2011 8:53 pm | |
| I have a feeling I know what this noise is from but I want to run it by some of you Riv experts and see what you think!
When I start the car, after it has been sitting a while or is cold so to speak, I get this noise that sounds like metal rubbing against metal. After driving it for a little bit it pretty much goes away. The car runs smooth as silk. I have looked under the hood while listening to this and it sounds to me like a pulley that has worn out. I have replaced all pulleys accept the one behind the motor mount.
Any help would be appreciated!!! Thanks... | |

| True... I had it rebuilt earlier this year. The guy made no mention of bearing noise. Hmmm... that makes good sense though... and he is old as dirt. Thanks for the input!

| Sometimes a 'rebuilt' alternator only has the diodes and brushes replaced, but not the bearings. You can buy two levels of remanufactured at NAPA - a partial rebuild (electronics only), or a full rebuild (electronic + hard parts). _________________ '05 GTO 6.0L • 6-spd • 95k miles • 0-60: 4.8s • 16.9 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:26'95 Celica GT 2.2L • 5-spd • 165k miles • 0-60: yes'98 SC Riviera • 281k miles • 298 HP/370 TQ • 0-60: 5.79s • ET: 13.97 @ 99.28 • 4087 lb • 20.1 avg MPG • Nelson Ledges Lap: 1:30 3.4" pulley • AL104 plugs • 180º t-stat • FWI w/K&N • 1.9:1 rockers • OR pushrods • LS6 valve springs • SLP headers • ZZP fuel rails KYB GR2 struts • MaxAir shocks • Addco sway bars • UMI bushings • GM STB • Enkei 18" EV5s w/ Dunlop DZ101s • F-body calipers EBC bluestuff/Hawk HP plus • SS lines • Brembo slotted discs • DHP tuned • Aeroforce • Hidden Hitch^^^ SOLD ^^^ '70 Ninety-Eight Holiday Coupe 455cid • 116k miles^^^ SOLD ^^^ | |

Any help would be appreciated!!! Thanks... I have the same noise. I've always had it. Could it be the idle air control? It goes away after the engine warms up. _________________ 98 Riviera SC3800 All stock except gutted air box. 1970 Buick GS455 Stage1, TSP built 470BBB, 602HP/589TQ Best MPH, 116.06 MPH, Best ET, 11.54 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UHCda-t_Jls https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sfT2tEO4XcU

| Does your engine have a CAI/cone intake? If so you often hear the supercharger while it's cold and loose. The OE intake baffles hide this sound. | |
